The tradition of constantly recycling/updating 'old' dancefloor favs, what do you think? Necessary updates or excercises in futility? Any more suggestions/comments/recommendations?

Recent examples I just got in:
Snap! Do You See The Light 2002 (Extended Club Mix) (the best of the bunch, this is actually lightyears better than the original)
Safri Duo ft Michael McDonald Sweet Freedom (so tacky!)
Art Of Trance Madagascar 2002 (Push Remix)
ATB You're Not Alone (Airplay Mix) (is this better than the original? I'm not sure...)
Aquagen Hard To Say I'm Sorry (this is by definition better than the Chicago abortion)
Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo Stars 2002(This is worse though)

----Aquagen Hard To Say I'm Sorry (this is by definition better than the Chicago abortion)----

but surely not as good as the dj kaos version?

I just bought Oli Max and DJ Shapps' 1991 (?) cover of "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life," which is bee-yoo-tiful.

If the mix of "You're Not Alone" was the hard-house one then it's awesome - literally nothing sounds better than bursts of trancey ethereal pop in the middle of sense-numbing alarms and non- stop 4/4.

No, the ATB one is not that different from the original. It's only productionally 'updated': better vocals, better strings, better beat, deeper bass, better thought-out buildup. When you play them back to back, you can't help but notice how much difference only five years of production technology can make - the old one is very flat and tame.

Actually now I remember the version you're talking about - I had to review it a couple of months ago. It was very inbetweenish if I recall - allusions to prog and trance and hard house and tech- house all sort of sinking together into a rather vague-sounding interzone. Obv. straight hard house is better.

I do like ATB as a producer though, and as one of the few pop- trance producers who got the idea of pop-trance 100% right (cf. Alice Deejay).
