Are there even any ILX people in the Cleveland area?

I'm thinking about it. Unfortunately, I would have to get off work to go- and I only have so many sick days. I'm trying my best to convince people to go, however. Sounds like his new roster is pretty interesting.

In addition to Mr Momus, apparently one of the bands opening for him, The Gongs, are quite good. My Oberlini Con-ite friend (who can't come, unfortunately) knows 'em.

So where were all you groovy people when I was living in Cleveland Heights (on Coventry Road, no less, directly across the street from the Grog) for four long miserable hermetically-sealed years, anyway??

...such missed opportunities...

I'm pissed at 'im, so I'm not going. I've gone to Chicago twice, and freaking LONDON twice (alright, so I was in the UK already, but *still*)! I've been trying to get him to come to Columbus for years now, and he just keeps skipping it, even though the momusfan contigent here is large, despite what you might expect. Plus, I wrote 'im an email about the Gongs, and he never wrote me back. He used to write me back! Et tu, Nick?

I was just causally looking through my local (Newark, DE) newspaper this morning and I'm frieghtened by a big picture of Momus on one of the pages. To bad the place he's coming to is 21+ (the same place where I interviewed the Cranes in thier van because I was kicked out!). The newspaper says: "This is either going to be a slice of post-rock genius or an incoherent train wreck."

RH, you got out when the getting was good. Coventry has been taking a really sharp downward dip lately... a medium chunk of the stores have gone, and the old Centrum goth kids have all gone "indie." Bob from Big Fun is about to retire and turn the store over to this gaggle of emo/hardcore kids, and Record Rev is thinking of pulling out. *shrug* I'll miss it, but I was never exactly a fixture there, and I go to school in NYC now.

but...columbus is a hole.

keith, Friday, 21 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

however, used kids is great. mum is playing there.

Now that's what I call redemption.

matthew m., Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

keith - for shame.

Columbus used to be a hole, admittedly. However, it has not been a hole for about five years, and is getting ready to overtake Cleveland as the coolest of the three "cities" in Ohio. Not saying much, but it's something anyway.

Of course, Athens remains the coolest single municipality in Ohio, but there you go.

keith, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sea World (now half of Six Flags) is in Aurora, which is about 30 minutes from Akron.

Not sure I understand where amusment parks factor in here . . . if that were the case, Florida would be the undisputed national center of U.S. culture. Thank god THAT's not the case . . .

J, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, then i have never been to akron. cedar point is better than disneyworld, just for those godawful cheese fries.

keith, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, if any of y'all decide to go, I'll be wearing a beige paisley shirt and be accompanied by a boy with moppy hair who's slightly shorter than me. Come say 'hello,' or 'lettuce,' or something.
