memm, Thursday, 20 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

they were mentioning server problems, hopefully nothing has happened to our last hope.

tyler, Thursday, 20 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm running it right now, it's fine.

Michael Dieter, Friday, 21 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it would appear that the server is down, when i run prog it pops a dialog box to pick server, and the list is empty (usually only see the main server) if soulseek is really going to be able to catch some of the AG refugees, somebody's probably going to have to set up a few more boxes...

Ron, Friday, 21 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mine is still down, anyone else?

vantasma, Friday, 21 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

still no go. may be fixing server or slight chance it is intentional. there were many grumblings about the influx and some calls to temporarily shut down to shake off some folx cuz the server can't handle all these people... who knows though??

Ron, Friday, 21 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It happens a lot, don't worry...

...yet!

Leee, Friday, 21 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yr prob right. ive been using it for a couple of months and havent seen this before though. hmm

Ron, Friday, 21 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I got mine working by doing the following...

Start > Find > Files or Folders

Search for "lmhosts", then open with wordpad or something

Paste the following into the opened text file

195.74.211.135 www.soulseek.org

vantasma, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you are correct sir, except on mine the file is just called 'hosts' I'm winXP and its c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts

Ron, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How does this work? I tried it and got zero results. Should I follow the rules in the text file to paste, or just plain paste?

tyler, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks very much. I'm running Windows 98 and mine was also titled 'hosts'.

tyler, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

good. from reading posts on the sseek bboard, win98 users seemed to be having a bit harder time than other OS.

Ron, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hehe, nath would not approve of me assuming vantasma was a sir. if you are a ma'am, apologies..

Ron, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm one of the AG guys. I'm looking for a replacement. I downloaded Soul seek and it did not show an icon or anything? Are there any others I should try to get. Help.

Musicman, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ron, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ron, well, it's better than addressing him/her as bitch. ;-)

nathalie, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am indeed a sir~, but WILL accept being called bitch.

dav, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

is there a problem on soulseek it is not working. Is has been a day now

hasan, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I uninstalled soulseek yesterday in the hope to go on the site and install it again (thinking it was something to do with my computer) and the site's down too! Argh! So now i've got no soulseek at all, and can't get it... If this rumour is true about shaking off soulseek users then i'm doomed!

I was a valid contributer too... over 2,300 files.

Darn my stupidity!

Jordan, Tuesday, 6 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

darn my stupidity too, i did exactly the same. p2p has boosted the record industry in the UK, independent record sales are well up this year. I don't give a fuck if the USA is having problems with record sales. Kill the record industry b4 it kills music

nabat, Saturday, 10 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Somehow Soulseek have lost their original URL (www.soulseek.org). To get Soulseek to work again, you have to go to www.slsk.org and download client v1.38. Everything should be peachy from that point on.

Mark, Saturday, 10 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thank god the panics over, all hail slsk and nir arbel!

sm, Saturday, 10 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks for the tip about the "hosts" file, it solved my soulseek! :)
