"Horror Head" ... Very close second: "Perish"

Tim DiGravina, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

coast is clear

keith, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Perish" it is.

John Darnielle, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh no it isn't. ;-) As it is, I can't even remember it. Where does it appear again?

"Mission From God" or "Today is Not the Day" -- flip a coin as need be.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mission from god is surely their most mbv-like moment. will someone choose 'falling free' to round out the ep?

keith, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Falling Free" is very tempting, but I have to go with "On the Wheel."

Andy K, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Horror Head, but a few others come close.

Vinnie, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Allow me to chime in for redeeming late-period tracks like "Left Of Mother" and "Alligators Getting Up".

Tim, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Horror Head"

paul, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"On the Wheel" is definitely a contender as well. Curve sure had a lot of brilliant stuff tucked away on the singles...

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually scratch "Left Of Mother" (Curve's ballads were always a bit iffy, mainly because they showed up Halliday's questionable lyrical skills), I meant "Turkey Crossing"

Tim, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Hell Above The Water"

Ess Kay, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Er, make that "Hell Above Water" - I only have the Gift promo. & have never heard any industrial music, for that matter.

Ess Kay, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

not doing this 2 b all trainspotterish, but 'what a waste' the ian dury cover. off the nme box set, 1992.

piscesboy, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Fait Accompli"....or maybe "Die Like a Dog"....nah, it's "Fait Accompli."

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I see your trainspotting and raise it one -- because the NME box had their cover of "I Feel Love." "What a Waste" (which is indeed an excellent cover) is on the Peace Together comp from the following year.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hahaha ! see i told u i wasn't a trainspotter !

piscesboy, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Clipped"

Chris Barrus, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

five years pass...

"Coast Is Clear"

- can't believe no one mentioned this before! it's got just the right dose of (more accessible type) Liz Fraser vocals crossed Wish-era Cure propulsion and groove, and is *EXACTLY* what i'd have liked to hear from MBV had they followed up "Soon" with a more straightforward dance track.

stephen, Sunday, 22 July 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

...not to mention, it's far and away the best Curve song to have sex to.

stephen, Sunday, 22 July 2007 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

I take it you've engaged on a program of research.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 22 July 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

...with n=3 for every song, surely.

:-)

Everyone who's tried it (or shoegaze in general, as a soundtrack) must agree...

stephen, Sunday, 22 July 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

I can't pick a favorite album from these guise. Cuckoo edging out Doppelganger? Damn they were awesome for a stretch. Even through Chinese Burn.

wanko ergo sum, Sunday, 22 July 2007 21:51 (eighteen years ago)

can't believe no one mentioned this before!

Yeah, esp. not in the second post on this thread!

HI DERE, Sunday, 22 July 2007 22:00 (eighteen years ago)

shut up, i scanned it quickly and must've missed that one :/

stephen, Monday, 23 July 2007 02:49 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm, this is a tough one. I'd probably go with '10 Little Girls' or 'Fait Accompli', or maybe the neglected 'Unreadable Communication'.

baaderonixx, Monday, 23 July 2007 08:20 (eighteen years ago)

One of Curve rides my morning train. ;-)

Masonic Boom, Monday, 23 July 2007 10:20 (eighteen years ago)

"Lillies Dying" is magnificent as well.

Alex in NYC, Monday, 23 July 2007 11:39 (eighteen years ago)

'Arms Out' is quite beautiful.

SeekAltRoute, Monday, 23 July 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

I could go for just about anything from the first 4 EPs, but the one that really gets it all together is

"Faît Accompli"

pisces, Monday, 17 March 2008 03:45 (eighteen years ago)

I miss Curve.

Alex in NYC, Monday, 17 March 2008 11:18 (eighteen years ago)

HI DERE, Monday, 17 March 2008 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

I miss my youth Curve.

DavidM, Monday, 17 March 2008 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

Hahaha

Alex in NYC, Monday, 17 March 2008 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

All accurate!

Ned Raggett, Monday, 17 March 2008 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

lolz

stephen, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 01:53 (eighteen years ago)

I'm still voting for Horror Head. What, this isn't a poll? Sigh.

electricsound, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 03:42 (eighteen years ago)

Isn't it weird when you start typing something and then realize that you wrote exactly the same thing on a thred a year before?

baaderonixx, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 08:45 (eighteen years ago)

welcome to Geir's brain

energy flash gordon, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 03:07 (eighteen years ago)

actually Alex In NYC is a master of this as well

energy flash gordon, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 03:07 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I do that constantly -- cruelly exposing my entirely finite supply of wit and insight.

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 20 March 2008 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

One of Curve rides my morning train. ;-)

I now cannot shake the concept of Curve performing a Sheena Easton medley.

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 20 March 2008 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

two years pass...

After years of hunting, I finally found a vinyl rip of the lone single as The Uncles that Toni did in 1984. Some things are better left to the imagination...

― electricsound,

haha

is there really nobody else who likes dean's new stuff as much as i do?

from the unhip (electricsound), Thursday, 8 April 2010 05:43 (sixteen years ago)

I like it, but whenever I think about putting it on, I decide to put on a Curve album instead.

Feeling proud of myself for figuring out the little guitar line on "I Speak Your Every Word." More to the point, I listened to it at least a dozen times in a row - it gets even better the more I listened to it.

Everyone listen to Curve today!

Elvis Telecom, Monday, 7 April 2014 08:37 (twelve years ago)

How funny! I just listened to Curve this morning!

(But I listened to Coast Is Clear.)

Branwell Bell, Monday, 7 April 2014 08:55 (twelve years ago)

I never knew Curve covered What A Waste before reading this thread just now. So I might listen to that when this Supreme Dicks CD finishes.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Monday, 7 April 2014 08:57 (twelve years ago)
