MC Pitman, then? C/D

I'm surprised this guy hasn't been mentioned on here before. For those not yet in the know, go onto Soulseek and get 'Pitman says' and 'Phone Pitman' by Pitman. Personally, I'm obsessed with the guy, think he's genius. Sort of like The Streets but not as cringey and amusing as hell.

I'd like you people to potificate about him and in doing so, explain why he's a thousand times better than all other British MCs, garage/rap/hip hop (?) artists at the mo. Or whatever. Go!

Ian, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sample lyric:

"Sh-sh-shake yer arse, but watch yer sen. Watch no shit comes out yer arse."

Now tell me that isn't classic.

Ian, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We had a thread about him somewhere. "Pitman Says" is so-so but "Phone Pitman" is the funniest record of the year. It doesn't reward quoting cos the delivery is so much part of it.

Tom, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Could you give me a link to that thread? I googled ILM but to no avail.

New single forthcoming, apparently: "Witness The Pitness". heh.

I'm all for a dodgy comedy record or two.

Tim, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We 'heart' Pitman. Though my copy is lost in Tom's house at the moment 'dyaget me?'

Pete, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Some of us 'ave the vinyl, mate. D'yer get me?

Tim, Thursday, 25 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

blimey. money handed over for entertainment rendered?? how does that work? I heard one song and was moderately amused, but Phone Pitman is ace -- it is currently locked up on my rub PC

You know pitmans got moves jimmy saville hasn't even thought of, but does anyone know where you can get 'jungle pit' from, or any other pitman tracks???

chris, Sunday, 11 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Try Suspect Packages, which is already carrying the new Pitman record "Witness The Pitness" and may have the other single too (can't get onto the site to check right now). I've found the service to be pretty great (two orders last week, both arrived at my door less than 24 hours after ordering...) and Disorda's recommendations have been reliable. It has a better selection of UK hip hop than any other retail outlet I've found, online or IRL.

Suspect Packages has been very responsible for my ongoing thing for UK hip hop.

Tim, Sunday, 11 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

GABBA says - Witness the Pitness

nick.K, Sunday, 11 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i was at home this week so was able to do the soulseek shuffle, and yeh, i like phone pitman, its a good track, but couldn't get pitman says to dl, oh well...

gareth, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think MC Pitman has to be the new musical find of the year, honest to god. God knows how that cockfarmer Mike Skinner's famous whilst "Phone Pitman" only returns about 12 results on Google.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"You tried to have a threesome with The Krankies but they fucked off cos you were crap."

Best. Insult. Evah.

Mr Swygart, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Witness The Pitness is the funniest. Pitman Says isn't so funny. I'm still trying to d/l Phone Pitman, so I hope it's good. Will definitely but the record!

Simon, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Pitman Says" cracked me the hell up, mostly 'cos the Pharoahe Monch original was pretty goofy in the first place (Godzilla music + usage of the word "breastesseses" + BEST CHORUS EVER). The Pitmanized additions of "chips an' beans" and "you cahn't hav' m'biskits" and "piss virgin" just made it a different kind of ridiculoid.

Is there not a record out yet? And any place I can buy in America? Phone Pitman is on a Gareth-made CD but I want MORE! (I don't do dl.)

Could somebody please tell me who all these people are that he's dissing? Sure I get the Streets (except the "day off" part)and the Jay-Z bits, but "Yer some Jamie Oliver knob head / Who thinks it's trendy to buy a moped"?? Who the frig is Jamie Oliver? And "I got white hair like Jimmy Saville"? And Brian Harvey?? And what's the point of the biscuits? And "You got a girly voice / Is Graham Norton your best mate?" And "You tried to have a threesome with The Krankies but they fucked off cos you were crap."" Ehh? Krankies??

"Ya get me? I don't think ya get me. I don't think ya get me at all."
Uhhh no, Pitman. I don't.

Evan (Evan), Friday, 21 February 2003 04:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Oliver's like some kind of TV chef or something (as immortalized in Cassetteboy's "Joliver").

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Friday, 21 February 2003 04:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Jamie Oliver

tv celebrity chef, disparaged as a 'mockney' (posh boy pretending to be 'street' cockney geezer

Jimmy Saville

very old tv presenter with white hair, who is rather odd. smokes cigars, wears tracksuits, says "now then now then now then, hows about that then?" sometimes. claims to have been the world first dj in like 1949 or something. did this show where children got their wishes made true, i forgot the name though. mainstay on brit tv in 70s and 80s. seen as oddball now

Brian Harvey??

member of early 90s boyband East17, named after the postcode they were from (E17) in Walthamstow in North London. seen as a bit of rough. extraordinarily ugly, he looked rather like a pug dog.

And what's the point of the biscuits?

well, everyone likes biscuits! anyway, its probably because it goes with the at home feel of cups of tea etc

And "You got a girly voice / Is Graham Norton your best mate?"

graham norton is a camp tv presenter on channel 4, famous for making innuendos and wearing colourful suits. did america ever get 'have you been served?', hes kind of based on the john inman character. lowest common denominator gay stereotype

"You tried to have a threesome with The Krankies but they fucked off cos you were crap."" Ehh? Krankies??

strange childrens tv duo from 1970s. it was a man and a woman, but the woman was dressed like a schoolboy

gareth (gareth), Friday, 21 February 2003 10:49 (twenty-three years ago)

the krankies were 80s shurely?

(and, hey, there still going strong on the panto circuit)

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 21 February 2003 11:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Saville's show was of course Jim'll Fix It, he also presented Top Of The Pops in the early 70s

"Dear Jim can yer fix it fer me? yes yer fookin can"

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 February 2003 11:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Other Brit-centric references from Pitman:

Westwood- host of Britain's major rap radio show, dismissed by some as a rich white guy cashing in on rap's success (his father was the Archbishop of Peterborough), nearly died in a drive-by a few years back.

"Why don't you go get your knob out on Banzai"- Banzai is a Channel 4 pseudo-Japanese TV show wherein past it former celebrities are forced to do surreal challenges for "bets". One of the challenges was to guess which penis belonged to Adamski.

Terry Wogan- jovial Irish bewigged host of the Radio 2 Breakfast show, Britain's most popular radio show.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 February 2003 11:08 (twenty-three years ago)

DOm you mean Normski not Adamski!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 February 2003 11:09 (twenty-three years ago)

altho that sheds new light on the last album by Adam Tinley, titled 'Adamski's Thing'

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 February 2003 11:09 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, krankies was 80s you're right, was it 70s too though, a lot of these things were such institutions that they ran, or at least seemed to run, for decades

gareth (gareth), Friday, 21 February 2003 11:24 (twenty-three years ago)

the krankie's have got legs!

(except for jimmy obv)

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 21 February 2003 11:37 (twenty-three years ago)

i hope Pitman namechecks Jimmy Cricket next

stevem (blueski), Friday, 21 February 2003 11:55 (twenty-three years ago)

"you're about as funny as Jimmy Cricket's wellingtons
left/right right/left,
fool,
you don't know which hand to wipe yer arse with, do yer?"

or something to that effect

Pitman has album out. ILM has for some reason not talked about it. For any of you worried that he couldn't carry it out to an album length, within a minute of the first track proper he's told 50 Cent to fuck off back to his club and stay there, and demanded the return of Les Dennis to Family Fortunes.

Album of the year, obviously.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

awesome.

ALLMUSIC.COM (ddb), Monday, 25 October 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I recommend tracking down his 'Breezeblock' session (is that Radio 1?). About 11 minutes of Pitman, opening with a great take on 'The Message':

"Smoking grass everywhere,
People pissing in me letterbox
And then running off.

I can't take the smell,
The smell of piss
I chase after them and I shout this:..."

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 25 October 2004 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoa, whoa, you gotta mention the Giles Peterson freestyle he did too:

Aren't you that nob'ead who plays music for students
Who go down to Sainsbury's so they can hang out with other students?

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 26 October 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)
