Often criticism of bad records, or not-as-good records, seems to say that the musicians were just not talented enough, as if whether or not a musician makes a good record is solely a matter of their primordial TALENT. But how much of a role might 'aw, fuck it' play? And how are 'aw, fuck it' and a musician's 'real' (in some sense) talent (taking into account how easily they give in without taking more time to work on a song, etc.) related?

Besides the other differences, one might be economic: most musicians are much more constrained in studio time than, say, songwriting time, though if a musician is making some kind of living off of their music then they can't dilly-dally forever, or pull a K. Shields. I don't think this is totally an economics thing though.
"Yuri's brother is not lending me his cavaquinho? Aw, fuck it. I just put some vocals and other shit in the song"

First 'aw, fuck it' moment that comes to mind is the inexplicablly sped-up ending of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs".

And this certainly the wrong place for it, but has the deadline passed for the ILM comp?
