"Hot on the Heels of Love".
Or possibly "Something Came Over Me".

Norman Phay, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'coz sequencers + pervy lyrix = k-rad
and Chris Carter = r0x0r, obv.

Norman Phay, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

As nifty as "Hot on the Heels of Love" is, the only true answer for this question is: "Hamburger Lady". G'wan. You know it's true.

Sean Carruthers, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Adrenalin"

Discipline - the Berlin Mix. One of the greatest singles ever made.

''blood on the floor''

Julio Desouza, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"United" (LP version) - sounds like drum and bass! "Hamburger Lady" is also good.

(If this concept still has any life left in it when I'm next around, later this week, I may do one of my own)

Jeff W, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What's the one that gets played by DJs? That one, cause it's great. (And it's the only one I know.)

Tracer Hand, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Persuasion

"We Hate You Little Girls".

Slug Bait. Simply for the shock value. Artistic deconstruction at its best...

Philip Gomez, Wednesday, 3 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooooh that's going back a bit.....need to dig out the vinyl and re- listen, but I reckon probably '5 Knuckle Shuffle' - but with 'Still Walking' and 'Beachy Head' hot on its heels...

(Heard a fantastic more aggressive/rougher version of 'Still Walking' at around the time 20JFG LP was released, but it's not the album one - anybody know where it might have been from? They didn't do a John Peel session in 1979 did they? Sounded too slick to be from one of the live cassettes you could get from them...)

Ray Manston, Tuesday, 9 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

cornets.....too scary to listen to alone

eight months pass...
Six Six Sixties - 70's industrial horor rock number, i still can't shake that riff of my head.

"AB7A" is still my favorite. It makes me think of airports at christmas time and 70s pbs science shows.

The doctor who wrote about the "Hamburger Lady" is from Portland, OR.

Nate Carson, Monday, 3 March 2008 22:44 (eighteen years ago)

If I had to pick only one, I'd actually pick "Hamburger Lady". Probably one of the first songs that honestly creeped me out.

novaheat, Monday, 3 March 2008 23:57 (eighteen years ago)

"Blood On the Floor". Gets stuck in my head all the time.

god they were so much more punk than the pistols or the clash or any of those other bands

latebloomer, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 01:39 (eighteen years ago)

I'm partial to "Hit By A Rock" myself.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 04:44 (eighteen years ago)

When I was (briefly) in college at U of O in '91-'92, I participated in a lip sync contest in the dorm cafeteria. It was a friday night so it was mostly christian students that had nothing better to do. The group before me did "Splish Splash I Was Takin A Bath". Jeepers they were having fun.

My friends and I came out and did "Hamburger Lady". I read the back of the album sleeve to the audience, then we performed. My friend Michael (6'5") was playing an invisible violin. His girlfriend Gretchen was in black lingerie and writing at the foot of the stage.

Nobody spoke to us after the song ended. LOL.

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

(xxxpost) I have to go with "Discipline" as well. Second would be "What A Day" - sums up working in an open plan office/call centre perfectly for me.

snoball, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

Nate:

That song also conjures up memories of UO for me, though they're not nearly as amusing as your own.

novaheat, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 00:23 (eighteen years ago)

'don't do as you're told, do as you think'

r1o natsume, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

I said "writing" but I meant "writhing".

Nate Carson, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 01:28 (eighteen years ago)

Nate that is a great story.

I would have to go with AB/7A also, even though it is technically Carter solo. For group effort, definitely Distant Dreams (Part 2).

sleeve, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 03:25 (eighteen years ago)

'Beachy Head'

DG, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 11:51 (eighteen years ago)

"Hamburger Lady."

'What a Day'

poortheatre, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 12:02 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think I would go through so much trouble now to bother a crowd of innocent people. But when I was 18, it seemed like a great idea.

Somewhere I have a photo of the event. I was wearing this weird plasticky MJ jacket that I got at Goodwill...

Nate Carson, Thursday, 6 March 2008 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

Shit this is really hard...

'Persuasion' would be the one I'd play other people the most...

S-, Friday, 7 March 2008 05:25 (eighteen years ago)

You Tube link above makes me laugh. Brilliant.

Bimble, Tuesday, 11 March 2008 02:44 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

"weeping" has been hitting me really hard recently. has anyone ever sounded more vulnerable and broken on record? the lyrics are brilliant.

The Old Man Smiled off of Heathen Earth.

Such an underrated TG record.

Jack Battery-Pack, Thursday, 19 March 2009 22:22 (seventeen years ago)

np.

downloading a torrent of 'recording heathen earth', though that and some parts of the oundle school performance are up on youtube. gen is a funny man.

isn't "the old man smiled" "six six sixties"?

rio (r1o natsume), Thursday, 19 March 2009 22:54 (seventeen years ago)

i mean - isn't what's known as "the old man smiled", "six six sities"?

rio (r1o natsume), Thursday, 19 March 2009 22:55 (seventeen years ago)

the industrial records ident is fearsome

rio (r1o natsume), Thursday, 19 March 2009 22:59 (seventeen years ago)

I guess their UCLA show was canceled and they are trying to find another venue? Anyone know anything about this?

turtles all the way down (Face of Wolf), Thursday, 19 March 2009 23:07 (seventeen years ago)

the song before the "something came over me" beat, where gen is talking about the human race being disgusting, is amazing

rio (r1o natsume), Thursday, 19 March 2009 23:17 (seventeen years ago)

"urge to kill"!!!!

rio (r1o natsume), Friday, 20 March 2009 22:38 (seventeen years ago)

old man smiled and six six sixties are different spoken word pieces performed over the same tape of gen playing bass. in the heathen earth video you can see him reading and not playing.

Fox Force Five Punchline (sexyDancer), Friday, 20 March 2009 22:47 (seventeen years ago)

np mission of dead souls. shame the sound quality is so poor, "spirits flying" is one of their best songs

rio (r1o natsume), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 15:54 (seventeen years ago)

nine years pass...

Can anyone who has heard the latest batch of Mute reissues (Journey Through A Body, Mission of Dead Souls, Heathen Body) comment on the remastering / pressing quality?

And if I have never heard Heathen Body, do I need to now?

Paul Ponzi, Monday, 24 September 2018 19:04 (seven years ago)

Heathen Earth I mean
