i really hate the cover of brian eno's 'here come the warm jets'. it didn't stop me from buying it, but those garish nightmare colours do sometimes stop me from listening to it.

(hmm... the colours on my copy are quite different to this picture, so maybe it was a print mistake.)

some friends of mine also refused to buy badly drawn boy's 'hour of bewilderbeast', preferring burnt copies to the hideous jumble of the real thing.

I waited until New Year's Eve 2001 to buy Basement Jaxx's Rooty for that very reason (that, and my reluctance towards house music -- but mostly that fucking gorilla).

Human League 'Dare' - I did buy it of course but I think the cover is the reason I took so long to get around to it

Aw, the cover of "here come the warm jets" rulez! I luv how the "ENO" is written all comic book-like, and the "garish nightmare colors" and the oddly placed imagery and the framed photo = awesome. "Taking tiger mountain" had one of the coolest covers ever, too.

geeta, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

haha, alright... i went to look at my original copy and i'm now convinced that something went seriously wrong with the printing. almost everything on the front cover is hot pink, except the grassy stuff, which is a shiny unhealthy plastic green. it's like if you looked really long and hard at the sun and then looked at the real 'here come the warm jets', this is what you would see.

You're right about that Badly Drawn Boy - how did he go from the brilliant (shamelessly retro, yes) covers by Andy Votel to that?

Royal Trux's "Sweet Sixteen" has the most disgusting cover of about any album ever.

It is so disgusting, I won't even post it here. It is freakin gross.

Being a comic bk snob, I always hated the 'cartooning' on the front of Snoop's 'Doggystyle'. Still, it's taken me years to dig the cartoons on Parliament/Funkadelic albs... but now I do, hurrah!

Yeah, and 'Sweet Sixteen' sure does take some beating in the revolto cover stakes - I mean, there's lots of metal/thrash gore 'outrage' out there, but that toilet bowl pic is much much worse somehow (Alex from BB3 wld drop dead if he saw it!)

I think I eventually caved-in, but I wasn't at all happy with any of the following....

actually votel was responsible for that atrocity too - weiirdd.

I'm with Geeta: I love the cover of 'Here Come the Warm Jets' (Eno must not have had anything to do with the Roxy Music cover art atrocities I moaned about the other day). Ever look closely at the smutty playing card at the bottom of the photo? Ties in with the rumored micturition allusion of the title...

erik, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I did eventually end up buying this (couple of half-way decent songs), but man did that album cover scare me off.

I actually took out the CD booklets for Squeeze's Singles: 45 & Under and the Cure's Staring At the Sea and intentionally put them in backwards so I wouldn't have to keep looking at their ugly cover art. Is it just me, or does that "Ricardo-Montalban-as-a-pervy-looking-wino" picture give you the creeps too?
Also, Yeah Yeah Yeah...I know its a classic and all, but I absolutely cannot stand the painting on the front of Court of the Crimson King
