You know I was talking to ilxor Colonel Poo, recently, this very cool Britisher dude who happened to marry an American lady and he said "yeah, Journey's Don't Stop Believing is such a big thing for Americans" or some such thing like that and I was like a lightbulb went on over my head "YEAH!" cause I'd never really thought about the fact that Journey never made it in the UK, but he was totally right.
And on the Britisher side, he was talking about The Sweet "Blockbuster" and Slade, we talked about Slade, too.

How could I not have known "Separate Ways" in 2003?! That's probably the best...
― Sundar, Monday, 6 April 2009 16:15 (seventeen years ago)
after a night of heavy drinking me and my friend woke up early in the morning and was watching some Journey doc on VH1 Classic...loads of concert clips from the 70s and in every one Steve Perry was wearing women's clothing...i swear to god every song he wore a more extravagant & outlandish blouse...the peak, towards the end, was the red polka-dotted kimono he wore (he might have been singing Faithfully???)...now Steve Perry's House of Blouse is a classic in-joke for us...
― jagged-electronically mäandernden underbody (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 6 April 2009 16:23 (seventeen years ago)
Okay don't do this to me or I might have to go rent that VH1 thing. Are you playing with me or are you serious?
― Earl of Gothington Manor (Bimble), Monday, 6 April 2009 16:28 (seventeen years ago)
LOL yeah but dont do anything extreme yet...let me search Youtube first...

Well you needn't worry...you see the cops towed my car...so going on the bus to the video store is very unpalatable to me cause it's a long way away. So I decided I needed to see this shit on the internet, or bust. I did find one site...it's loading now.
― Earl of Gothington Manor (Bimble), Monday, 6 April 2009 16:41 (seventeen years ago)
yeah that stone in love leopard print vest was one of them though, I remember... looks like something some girl in a Motley Crue video would wear, prhaps?

― To Float Away On A Lifelong Song (Bimble), Monday, 6 April 2009 20:21 (seventeen years ago)
God, this is fun. I wish they'd talk some more about their earlier years, though.
See, I can take Journey & early Stevie Nicks to bed, and be happy and go to sleep happy. Christopher Cross, too.
I guess I'm embarassed about American music in some respects, but I'd gladly take these three and be happy.
― To Float Away On A Lifelong Song (Bimble), Monday, 6 April 2009 20:33 (seventeen years ago)
I know I said this before, but all I wanted was for one Britisher like Colonel Poo to say "yeah, Journey's Don't Stop Believing is a big thing for Americans". And like, that's all I needed to hear. Bimble will be quiet now.
― To Float Away On A Lifelong Song (Bimble), Monday, 6 April 2009 20:41 (seventeen years ago)
I never knew that Journey were/are completely unknown in the UK. www.everyhit.com brings up only three charting albums, and no singles at all. Weird.

most of my fave Journey cuts have that keyboard guy duetting with S. Perry...

Yes! The singles -- Girl Can't Help It; Be Good To Yourself; I'll Be Alright Without You; and Suzanne -- are near-perfect, cavernous 80s pop/rock anthems.

I feel like karaoke nights have ruined "Don't Stop" and "SEparate Ways" for me....
currently I think "Who's Crying Now?" gets the nod due to its melancholy piano line. it actually reminds me of being like 5 years old in the back of my mother's station wagon hearing that song and feelin' the vibe Steve and co were throwing out there even if I didn't understand why.

― brimstead, Friday, 4 September 2015 21:45 (ten years ago)
and w/aynsley dunbar
never heard the fusion-y stuff. it is a factoid I liked to pull out tho when everybody whined about how Perry's replacement wasn't as good as the "original" Journey vocalist

― mookieproof, Saturday, 5 September 2015 00:02 (ten years ago)
i have the backtrack a little re: the santana vibe, though. journey loses the latin percussion and composition style. it retains the soaring epic majestic side of santana though.
