"How To Drive A Train"

Rough, spiky, simple house, no bassline, big slowdown near the end, train noises, "All Aboard!!", like French Kiss meets C'mon and Ride It. I have it on the flip of "Perculator". Is it Cajmere?

I put this song on filepile and got told to "take it easy."

Sorry; it's "How to Run a Train"

Ooh! I think I may have heard this on a DJ show sometime near the turn of the '90's. Is it oddly atonal, and is there a diva on it?

Michael Daddino, Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There's some moaning/singing that sounds like a diva's voice that's been doubled or tripled in an ATONAL harmony. (you may be onto something Michael!) A bit like the dissonance of a train whistle. When the slowdown occurs, and the drums turn into huge breakbeats, you can hear the woman's voice(s) a lot better. Then it speeds back up.

to be super-clear, the "breakbeats" are the exact same Roland-style drums from before but slowed down so they sound all handclappy hiphoppy

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That sounds about right. I think the "sung" parts have may have been a diva snippet sampled and played on a keyboard. And these sampled bits had a really odd relationship to the rest of the song, rythmically speaking.

I have a very clear memory of this track: it was much cruder than any house I heard before, every detail was immensely jarring and odd-ball.

Based on the description, I MUST HAVE THIS.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mike - same song. "Crude" is the watchword here. It must be Cajmere.

oops....
ok, try again. this mix cd has perculator by cajmere on track 17... and track 5 is 'how to run a train' by "MCM 13". there's another mcm 13 just before perculator too.

Yup that's it!! thank you minna! still no idea who "MCM-13" is even after googling (it sounds like a college class), but it appears that the track was on Jasper Stone records.
