Might as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb.

Actually what I want to ask is - should anyone not giving reasons on a POO thread get their posts deleted? ;)

"Dare" - Seamonsters

listen to it and you'll agree. how's that tom?

Off-Topic - isn't The Wedding Present THEE UK band most heavily indebted to US Indie sound?

gygax! (i forgot my blog password), Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

only josh

i can't get as high as one, even, on this thread

ok so now I know what POO means: Dallience. It's got massive spaces all the way through it. Itchy with 5 others, tho....

stevie mitch, Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'Anyone Can Make a Mistake' from George Best is pretty much the only Wedding Present song I know well (it's really good). I saw it on SNUB in the late 80s and didn't figure it out until I plugged "I just completely lost my head" into (the missed) lyrics.ch a few years ago. In the interim, I had listened to a bunch of their cds without really liking anything on them. It just seemed like utterly non- descript indie. I just kept asking myself, "why are they making all these special 7" singles, does anyone care?"

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Awr. I dont like it too much when they play it slow and painful. I prefer fast and painful. 'Nobody's Twisting Your Arm' maybe remains the best WP pop song, when all is considered. 'Brassnecks' has the best guitar bridge. 'Shatner' has the best intro.

So, naturally, I decide to pick 'What Did Your Last Servant Die Of'. I've always wondered what it would have been like sung by Ian Curtis.

"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"! "Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"! "Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!"Kennedy"!

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll also take "Kennedy." Because of, uh, the guitar... parts. I do remember immediately after hearing it for the first time calling a friend in sheer delirium and then not knowing exactly what to say. I think I was going to order him to either come over and listen to this song or to go buy it for himself, but that started making less sense as the initial rush wore off.

Aaron A., Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Kennedy" also. I once saw _Bizarro_ sitting on a friend's shelf when she asked me to pick something to put on, cranked up "Kennedy" all the way... she came running in to ask me what this great record was and where I'd found it...

Douglas, Tuesday, 25 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That would be the cover of "Falling", 'cause it just gets bigger, and bigger, and bigger...

Colin Meeder, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"No Christmas." The finest loud-soft-loud track ever.

Michael Daddino, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Kennedy" is indeed their best song, but Seamonsters is their best album.

Yancey, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Suck" -- for that concluding guitar part. Simple, devestating.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Agreed on Suck. Which is why Seamonsters is great. That and the last track (and the rest of the songs are pretty good too).

Yancey, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Love the Wedding Present, but nothing beats the off-shoot Ukranians EP where they cover The Smiths. No time right now to pick a favorite WP song.

Tim DiGravina, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Kennedy" also. Too much apple pie.

J, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"My Favourite Dress". Obvious but true. Only Stephin Merritt can make such an emotionless voice sound as sad.

one year passes...
Dare. Though I sure love to turn up "Take Me" loud and listen to the last 7 minutes of treble guitar delirium.

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 2 April 2004 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Once, now and forever....

"Kennedy"

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 2 April 2004 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

...except I like "Dalliance" better.

Lil' Won Jilliams (ex machina), Saturday, 3 April 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

There isn't one.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 3 April 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh, What's the album with all the Cyrillic shit on the cover.

Lil' Won Jilliams (ex machina), Saturday, 3 April 2004 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

That's The Ukranians. It was in Ukranian.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 3 April 2004 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the album with all the Russian shite?

This'un....which predates Pete Solowka's Ukrainians as their own going concern...

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 3 April 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah. I was being an ass, but I'm still standing ass-proud on the Ukranian independence thing.

N. (nickdastoor), Sunday, 4 April 2004 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

five years pass...

The Peel Session version of "Take Me I'm Yours" is the stuff of godhead.

More Goth Than Your Grandmother (Bimble), Sunday, 17 May 2009 10:24 (seventeen years ago)

"Rotterdam" because it sums up...something. That or "I'm Not Always So Stupid".

Everybody Wants To Shag King Boy Pato (King Boy Pato), Sunday, 17 May 2009 13:50 (seventeen years ago)

"Kennedy" 4evZ.

anatol_merklich, Sunday, 17 May 2009 13:55 (seventeen years ago)

For years and years I thought the answer was clearly Kennedy and laughed at all other viewpoints, but lately "Take Me!" has been overtaking it. The fact that it's longer doesn't hurt. I guess they're both ultimately "What Goes On" played at 78rpm.

dlp9001, Sunday, 17 May 2009 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

It will always be "Kennedy," but "Why Are You Being So Reasonable Now?" is hugely close.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 17 May 2009 18:34 (seventeen years ago)

everyone thinks he looks daft has always been my fave song. and george best is still my fave album along with that ukrainian ten inch. but i haven't heard EVERYTHING they ever did.

scott seward, Sunday, 17 May 2009 19:06 (seventeen years ago)

you know live it's 'Flying Saucer'. (also why did i not post to this in 2002? when i would have just said 'still favourite dress' )

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Sunday, 17 May 2009 19:21 (seventeen years ago)

Hahah oh my god! I miss that Ukranian 10"! Oh man...it was so crap but I'd love to hear it now!

More Goth Than Your Grandmother (Bimble), Sunday, 17 May 2009 19:35 (seventeen years ago)

it's all on the peel session box set thing.

(there were two Ukranian sessions, and then the Ukranians did a Bigmouth ep and a album (which i don't have))

koogs, Monday, 18 May 2009 12:56 (seventeen years ago)

two years pass...

The insane cover of Felicity.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike. (hugo), Friday, 23 March 2012 17:36 (fourteen years ago)
