Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:23 (sixteen years ago)

over 40. the massive trojan clearout that fopp did a few months ago made the figure a lot higher than normal.

mark e, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:25 (sixteen years ago)

Jeez, I don't rightly know. A lot.

physical CDs? Or do albums off iTunes count as well?

Violent In Design (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:29 (sixteen years ago)

11-20, I think. Though if I'd include second hand buys, it would be 31-40.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:29 (sixteen years ago)

All the £3 CDs I've been getting from Zavvi's grave barely seem to count as new TBH, not least cos of the scratched cases half of them have. Went for 21-30 anyway

Real Men Play On Words (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:30 (sixteen years ago)

I didn't count iTunes.

Actually I think I underestimated, oops.

he is substituite by Crime Club (HI DERE), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:30 (sixteen years ago)

i would count itunes and similar, if you downloaded most if not all of the album

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:31 (sixteen years ago)

I just got a new, well paid job, so it's way up than normal. Oh yeah, and count the fact that I've started DJing again and of course "have" to have certain CDs for my DJ gigs, erm... easily 40+

add iTunes and BeatPort and stuff and it might be more like 50. Jeez.

Violent In Design (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:33 (sixteen years ago)

I kind of forgot that I just bought the four new Siouxsie and the Banshees reissues, and if you include iTunes purchases I have to be pushing 40 albums this year.

Oh, and I bought my mom 4 CDs for her birthday, would those count?

he is substituite by Crime Club (HI DERE), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:34 (sixteen years ago)

like 11-20 probably, mostly vinyl with a few things on itunes

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:36 (sixteen years ago)

i only bought like 5 or 6 - all download. 0 interest in CDs, vinyl etc. personally. i will probably buy another dozen or so by the end of the year. as ever i'm more of a tracks buyer/listener.

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:39 (sixteen years ago)

0, though I'd like to notch into the 1-5 category by year's end. Second-hand is another story.

dad a, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:43 (sixteen years ago)

I think three: Dark Was the Night b/c I wanted to support the cause (and would've felt like a schmuck downloading it), Azita's How Will You? b/c there's little chance I would've found it online, and I want to say one of the four CDs I bought at Amoeba in March was full-price, though I could be wrong. Have been considering buying the Grizzly Bear album b/c I've heard that the sound quality of the leak is subpar.

great gabbneb's ghost (jaymc), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

b/c there's little chance I would've found it online

For free, that is.

great gabbneb's ghost (jaymc), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

11-20. so far a pretty slow year and sadly it's only getting slower

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:47 (sixteen years ago)

19 but I've bought way more than that used

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:49 (sixteen years ago)

At least half of those were in Fopp/Zavvi tho

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 13:50 (sixteen years ago)

looking at just non-local new releases I've bought this year, it breaks down to roughly:
8 albums bought as physical CDs
10 albums bought from iTunes/Amazon mp3/other mp3 stores
14 albums downloaded via my eMusic subscription

if i kept better track of older stuff i bought i'm pretty sure the number would go over 40 pretty easily, with or without eMusic though. are we counting subscription services like eMusic?

Way over 40.

ledge, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 14:09 (sixteen years ago)

40+, no doubt'bout.

t**t, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 14:10 (sixteen years ago)

I've bought over 40 albums on CD this year - and all bar 2 were bought over the counter, in a shop. I've also downloaded 5 more via Amazon.

Of the 40+ albums bought, 23 were new releases and the rest were discounted back catalogue. There were more of these than usual, due to the Selectadisc closing down sale.

(As for individual track downloads, maybe another 40 or so via iTunes or Amazon. And as for yer actual "single": one via iTunes, and none whatsoever on CD.)

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 14:13 (sixteen years ago)

Probably 6-10 so far. I am usually shocked by how few gigs ilx0rs go to in a year, so I suppose this is the trade-off.

xpost oh, damnit, yes, I probably bought about 6 on Selectadisc's last day alone, had forgotten about that splurge, so would actually be more like 11-20.

emil.y, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 14:15 (sixteen years ago)

not many new cds, in fact, I can only think of three. this is mainly to do with employment/money problems and also just not having time to listen to music; I haven't downloaded much either.

akm, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 14:21 (sixteen years ago)

def 40+

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 14:24 (sixteen years ago)

I mean, I'd have to look when I'm home, but I'm guessing 65-70. 90% of which were bought in person at a store, the other 10% from Aquarius.

the sideburns are album-specific (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 14:26 (sixteen years ago)

Five new cds, five new albums on vinyl, over 30 secondhand cds and vinyl records.

' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 14:29 (sixteen years ago)

Coupla emusic dls - a few CDs new as presents......and maybe 200 secondhand LPs.

sonofstan, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:12 (sixteen years ago)

8 CDs through amazon
4-5 through itunes
50-60 through emusic
around the same for amiestreet

abanana, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:27 (sixteen years ago)

ha! first hand? definitely 1-5. and closer to the 1 than the 5.

but i've probably done 31-40 if you include used.

killer diller chiller thriller (will), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:42 (sixteen years ago)

2-3. ive been first to download songs off links a few times if that counts.

otm and his package (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 17:09 (sixteen years ago)

Over 40 (probably over 100) second/third/fourth-hand, probably 95% vinyl.

0 first-hand (though a couple of the second-hands were 2009 albums from a used record store).

xhuxk, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 17:11 (sixteen years ago)

Back when I had a job, I went buck-nuts for some S-S Records shit… Plus the new World Is Lousy is an LP… And Nomo's new album… Plus a few iTunes albums (Slade, Runaways, Wolfbait, etc.)… Six to ten easy; over 20 if 7"s counted.

Now, compared to what I've downloaded and swiped from pals still on the promo gravy train?

THESE ARE MY FEELINGS! FEEL MY FEELINGS! (I eat cannibals), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 21:24 (sixteen years ago)

Oh, and used? I should probably move so that Record Surplus is no longer in walking distance… It's too easy.

THESE ARE MY FEELINGS! FEEL MY FEELINGS! (I eat cannibals), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 21:24 (sixteen years ago)

I've bought about a dozen new albums (on CD) released this year, a small handful of older stuff, and maybe 20 individual tracks off iTunes, so I voted 11-20.

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 22:26 (sixteen years ago)

11-20? Cyberstolen a hell of a lot more.

Dear me. Just 6 or 7 this year... Had to get the Vaselines comp, Spiritual Singers, got some African comps from Amoeba and then splurged on some Radio Heartbeat stuff. Gotten a bunch of cheap used vinyl (scored an amazing Junie Morrison 12" for $1 the other day :)... But otherwise, I'm barely scraping by enough to rent an apartment this year. Next year, I should be back up to my normal ratio.

the who cares (okamax), Wednesday, 1 July 2009 05:45 (sixteen years ago)

6-10. Also downloaded another 8 from amazon, which I didn't count as it was when they screwed up the pricing and were selling them for 29p an album. Second hand, probably 200-300, bulk of which I got from a local auction for about £25.

DJ Angoreinhardt (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 1 July 2009 07:30 (sixteen years ago)

However only kept about 20-30 which I cherry picked for myself and have been reselling the rest.

DJ Angoreinhardt (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 1 July 2009 07:31 (sixteen years ago)

Import 12"s cost almost as much as albums and I've bought a bunch of those this year. For actual albums, I'd say somewhere around 15 all on vinyl except the Byrne/Eno thing.

pipecock, Wednesday, 1 July 2009 15:33 (sixteen years ago)

if emusic downloads count, definitely over 40. if they don't, more like 3 or 4.

us_odd_bunny_lady (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 1 July 2009 15:34 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe 40 used, but only appx 5 new.

I'm cutting back this year;

tbh-a soarin' (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 1 July 2009 15:35 (sixteen years ago)

Way more than 40. 'Tis a sickness, I know. Just to stay minimally current is a large finam=ncial commitment.

Michael Train, Thursday, 2 July 2009 02:13 (sixteen years ago)

oh man so many more than 40

BLACK JOE JACKSON NEE BEYONCE (jjjusten), Thursday, 2 July 2009 02:38 (sixteen years ago)

I'm over 40 if BMG Music counts, if not then i would say 11-20.

Bee OK, Thursday, 2 July 2009 02:56 (sixteen years ago)

new cds & lps: 50
used cds & lps: 150 or so, apparently. i'm kind of shocked.

next stop: NOWHERE, i wanna get off (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 2 July 2009 04:13 (sixteen years ago)

Fairly sure it's less than 10. Could only think of a couple until I remembered spending a Christmas gift HMV voucher in January and being unable to resist another 2x the value of the voucher on top.

Feels shockingly low because I used to buy a hell of a lot, mostly used but new too. I want to say it's because I don't really live near a real record shop any more, but I work in a town with an HMV, and while the selection is limited and expensive I used to buy most of my new stuff from there anyway. Still ordering online occasionally but whenever I do it's a struggle keeping the total below 100 quid so I can't do that very often; don't think I've done it this year, even.

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 2 July 2009 11:00 (sixteen years ago)

If I lived near one of the few surviving Fopps, or the Zavvi near us had bothered with a sale, or had any independent music shops left to spend a lunchtime in you could bet it would be a lot higher.

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 2 July 2009 11:03 (sixteen years ago)

21, but 15 of those have been <£5 Fopp purchases, and a fair amount of those I haven't even listened to yet. Sorry music industry but I got a Wii for my birthday in April and I've already spent more on that than I have on music.

j.o.n.a, Thursday, 2 July 2009 11:08 (sixteen years ago)

i took the "1-5" option, but i should note that all of it was via iTunes. it's been a while since i bought something new in a store!

Beatrix Kiddo, Thursday, 2 July 2009 12:08 (sixteen years ago)

The Fopp factor is certainly a major consideration in my case. If there wasn't a Fopp within 5 mins walk of the office, then I'd have switched to online purchasing by now.

mike t-diva, Thursday, 2 July 2009 12:58 (sixteen years ago)

The Fopp factor is certainly a major consideration in my case.

agreed - its addictive, oh and the massive clearout that Head are currently doing.
hidden gems galore lots of interesting jazz (cannonball adderley and freddie hubbard this week) amongst the usual crap.

mark e, Thursday, 2 July 2009 13:05 (sixteen years ago)

I'm over 40 if BMG Music counts, if not then i would say 11-20.

Whoa, didn't realize people still did the BMG thing!

the sideburns are album-specific (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 2 July 2009 13:13 (sixteen years ago)

I'd say 6-10 or so this year. Bought the new Secret Machines disc yesterday.

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 2 July 2009 14:28 (sixteen years ago)

Best thing about Spotify: it makes it much easier to preview albums ahead of purchase. The number of lucky-punt impulse buys has decreased sharply this year.

mike t-diva, Thursday, 2 July 2009 15:14 (sixteen years ago)

God I can't wait for Spotify to make it over here (like it ever will), I am insanely jealous of the ability to do just that!

I voted 1-5 but noticed this morning that I forgot about the Fever Ray and Pains of Being Pure At Heart. So I should have voted 6-10.
