pitchfork, dusted, the wire, mojo, a couple of blogs who may like our stuff, journalists who tend to like our stuff, the top ten posters on ILX, etc

Well what kind of music are you talking about? It's a waste to send out anything blindly... Targeting is key.

oh yeah, college radio has been good to us. A few key stations. Do some research. Don't send it to everybody. Send it to the stations that play music like your music and that want your CD. Get in touch with DJs, etc.

Any contacts re festivals would be useful.

Ditto, any specific contacts re college radio.

I would maybe just call college stations or e-mail and ask who plays [music of your genre] and whether they ever play unsigned/self-recorded stuff. Actually you might not have to ask the second question. I'd also start locally.

A lot of DJs and music writers want there to be some reason for them to play you, i.e. you also have music available for purchase/download in the area, and/or you're going to play shows in the area. If you're based in San Francisco and are unsigned and don't tour (and aren't some kind of internet sensation already), a Des Moines alt weekly is not going to have any interest in you no matter how good you are, because what would be the point?

If any one has contacts for any of the UK/European festivals, that would be good.

Thanks for all answers so far.

Any ideas re Scandinavian music/popular culture magazines and contacts for putting on shows?

I think these guys might be into letting you play in their garages.

One snowy, blowy night after Turkey Day 1975, Crocus delivered a big box of 45 jacket flats to Helen's pad in Cleveland, for us gals to put together. If you own one of these singles, please know that the Linna sisters folded and glued each and every one of them just for you. We sent promos to places like Who Put The Bomp, Creem, Rock Scene, and stuff, and got lots of orders from people who would become our life long best friends. Maybe Davie from the Electric Eels was right in that earlier letter where he said Rocket was doing something weird to his head. http://www.kicksville66.blogspot.com/
