I guess at this stage, the Blank Dogs should have their own thread.

New album is out - very derivative, but as a reformed goth, I'm liking the 'Only Theater of Pain' vibe on this.

Yes, they should have their own thread. And now its title is no longer in bold.

I'm staying out of this one.

every time i read this band's name i read it in a NZ accent like how murray says "crazy dogs" in the first ep of season 2 of flight of the concords

lots of blank dogs disccusion in the rolling punk threads from the past couple of years if youre curious

bodyguard/publicist Tank (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 7 July 2009 17:54 (fourteen years ago) link

band would be way better if the production was in any way listenable

goth =! lo-fi

lol ian

i don't mind (slash usually like) the lo-fi sound, it's sorta creepy in an appropriate way. dude puts out waaaaaaaay too much stuff, and most of it sounds alike, but there are always a few songs that i dig, usually the pop ones (like "yellow mice sleep").

pretzel walrus, Tuesday, 7 July 2009 18:50 (fourteen years ago) link

I like his sound but yeah the songs don't usually stick with me.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 7 July 2009 18:52 (fourteen years ago) link

"slowing down" is a pretty solid rip off of "wax and wane" by the cocteaus

cutty, Tuesday, 7 July 2009 19:05 (fourteen years ago) link

Saw them this past weekend for the first time since their first show. Vastly more together and more powerful live now. On record though, he is risking a sense of utter disposability with his inhuman output. Not to mention the side project stuff. Still the production pace (and all the other Captured Tracks output) is impressive.

two weeks pass...

There is a song on this that is an absolute clone of the Cure's "A Strange Day"

there is never a band i soooo wish i could go back in time and not see live than the blank dogs

And guess what? I think Pitchfork is going to give it a BM. (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 26 March 2010 23:47 (fourteen years ago) link

ive seen some clips on youtube and it doesnt look every enticing. that being said this ep is great.

oscar, Friday, 26 March 2010 23:58 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i love the records...and they had such a mysterious, otherworldly quality to them...then i saw them and it was just a bunch of dudes playing rock songs

And guess what? I think Pitchfork is going to give it a BM. (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 26 March 2010 23:59 (fourteen years ago) link

(and i want to hear the new ep for sure)

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 9 December 2010 11:02 (thirteen years ago) link

i got it from emusic but yet to listen.. will report back

midiverb II program 49 (electricsound), Thursday, 9 December 2010 11:36 (thirteen years ago) link

I like it quite a bit, but I'd have to say that the Pitchfork review totally nails it. The crisper sound and production works wonders, but it is a bit of a switch and the rough vocals can be more jarring at times rubbing up against the shininess. But Sniper's songwriting knack is still very much on full display.

has he ditched the gothy guitars or something?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 9 December 2010 14:33 (thirteen years ago) link

No, just upgraded his equipment, its all a lot cleaner sounding.
