How many songs have you got on your ipod?

Recently I was in New York and finally I bought an ipod. The classic version which has 120 gb (111 gb to be correct). Now I have a problem which I wouldn't have had immediately if the ipod would still have a capacity of 180 gb as in the past. I have more music on the hard disk of my pc than fits on the ipod. So what I did was putting all artists from a to q in a playlist and synchronise it with the ipod. Whenever I listen to songs on the ipod now I rate them. One star means I really dislike the song, it has to be deleted from the hard disk. Two stars means I don't want to have it on the ipod but it can stay on the hd. Everything from 3 stars onwards stays on the ipod. In the past weeks I have rated well over 2000 tracks. More than 600 got two stars. The last band I have added is Silver Jews. So I am slowly managing my way through my mp3 collection. At Christmas the latest I should arrive at Z and the ipod should include only music I like if everything works well. Right now I have 20435 songs on it. Somehow I don't believe that there are more than 20,000 good songs out there. And you?

...and not all of them are great, obviously.

40 zillion songs? those songs are short & sweet, aren't they?

There are more than 20,000 good songs.

As of now, 13,028 songs (38 days worth of music, sez iTunes).

This is my system exactly. Out of 14600 on my harddrive, only 325 got 2 stars. There's 80 which I haven't yet rated, which are conveniently kept in their very own smart playlist. Also have a smart playlist of everything that got 4 and 5 stars: 3966 songs. Nearly a 1/3 of the total, not bad!

I thought about buying one of those 8GB or 16GB Nanos and filling it with nothing but Elvis. I'd have to figure out how much space all the Elvis stuff I have would take up, though. Plus the stuff I don't already have that I want. Plus it's more appealing in theory than practice, I suspect.

I don't think I could handle an actual full size ipod. I can't even fill up by 4GB nano with songs I want (I have about 3/4 GB left)! I kind of perpetually shift the contents of what's on there, tho when I'm at home, I do listen to the bigger desktop library. I think nano is really more of a fancy exercise mixtape for me, whereas a full size ipod would be like carrying around a bookstore on my back everywhere I went.

1st gen Nano still does the job. Content changes continually. Mostly downloaded stuff, I subsequently buy what I loved listening to.

IPhone has about 380 songs, but it's emma's so she's in charge. Shuffle (1gb) has about 100 and gets changed regularly. Main iPod has about 8,000 and never leaves the Zeppelin; it's basically a jukebox. I've never even considered trying to get our whole collection on there.

My little Samsung only holds 1.8 gigs worth, which currently means a niggardly 369 songs
