Ted Nugent vs. Dizzy Gillespie

OK Ted Nugent is now a hateful crank whom even the staunchest apologists have tired of. However, listening to the Amboy Dukes shit reminds one that he was a contemporary of Hendrix' and perhaps the example of a watching a groundbreaking genius drug himself to death before his eyes affected him in a way similar to the way Bird's behaviour impacted on Gillespie (who was also accused of retreating into caricature, albeit a far less abrasive one)? Seeing the long slow deaths of Bird/Hendrix would definitely change any close observer's views on the romantic genius myth. OK now I'M being a Nugent apologist but some of his early tracks make me genuinely wonder what 'might have been'

As 'guitarists' go, maybe Page = Davis ("Levee" and "Whole Lotta Love" run the voodoo down) and Barrett = Monk in approach x Bud Powell in temperament?

Also I defy ANYBODY to tell me they'd rather listen to the entirety of "Voodoo Zzzzzzzzz" than the utterly perfect "Stranglehold"

As long as I don't have to listen to him talk I can tolerate Ted Nugent. Unfortunately he opens his mouth ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Still I like some of those Amboy Dukes rekkids, too.

oh the talking between the songs on "double live gonzo" is the best talking on record! ever!

I came into posession of two Amboy Dukes records that I've never listened to... I will one of these days.

Sean, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sean which ones?

Nugent would be better with some fiber.

I strongly believe that Ted Nugent should be shot.

He's a redneck piece of crap and his opinions on guns are highly offensive while his abuse of wildlife is disgusting.

Calum Robert, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

haha: "his view on guns are highly offensive" and therefore he should be SHOT! Do you SEE?

!!!

Well if you're gonna put guns to use...

Don't even try and stick up for Nugent. His raffling a wolf hunt in Alaska for ebay is beyond contempt. Animals are not things for him to simply blow out of the air.

Calum Robert, Friday, 28 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How does one blow a wolf out of the air, exactly? I mean, you have to get it there first...

Only the ignorant criticize so staunchly what they do not understand, and most of this thread proves that out. Nugent is the epitome of the true definition of a nature conservationist, and has been awarded many honors for that. the state of michigan recongizes his ranch as the "perfect ecological system" due to his keeping the wildlife at the optimum level, reducing starvation of animals due to overpopulation, etc. check the facts before you make a judgement in the future and the whole world will be much better off. By the way, Hendrix kissed the sky and ended up dead, choking on his own puke. Nugent still rocks, and rocks harder and with more talent than the "immortal' Jimi ever did. Hendrix can kiss the sky, but I'd rather listen to Ted's "Kiss My Ass" any day.

Doubtless.

Hmmm,
Are you the same Dave Anderson that runs an online DVD site where you spout pro-Bush nonsense and rally for the USA to bomb any country that features non-White people of a different religious persuasion to yourself (and in doing excite your largely white, middle class, 'nuke the fuckers' forum members to a state of pant wetting excitement?) Surely not. It's just that's the only Dave Anderson that I could imagine or think of coming out with such a conservative and ill-informed statement as the one above about Ted Nugent.

Christ, will some people ever get it through their head that teaching young kids to fire guns and spears at animals is neither healthy, nor something that should be encouraged?

And the wolves being auctioned off on ebay were of the 'going strangely more and more less by the year' variety. Ted Nugent kills and makes a profit from spouting his conservationist drivel. It's his excuse for excercising his bloodlust. Just as Huntingdon Life Sciences spouts about 'breakthroughs in medicine' to defend the fact they make money from shoving oven cleaner down puppy dog's throats.
