Well, we've always expected desecration...but not THIS!...

The new reissues of his first two solo albums, Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman have not only been remixed, but re-recorded, replacing the bass and drums from the original recordings with new, shockingly inferior performances from Ozzy's current touring bassist and drummer. These are two albums widely regarded as classics in the metal genre, albums fans have held near to their hearts for the past 20 years, and they have been tampered with. Tainted. Imagine if Jimmy Page replaced John Bonham's drumming on Led Zeppelin IV. Or if a studio hack replaced Johnny Marr's guitar work on The Smiths' The Queen is Dead. Or an Abbey Road minus Paul's bass, George's guitar solos, or even Ringo's classic drum fills. Why, in the name of all that's holy, would Ozzy do this?
Nooooooooooooooo!!!!

Lord Custos III, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

have you heard them, Custos?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it had to do with members of Ozzy's band from the Blizzard/Diary period suing him, so he (or Sharon, more likely) decided to take revenge by having their parts re-played on the new remasters, thus denying them performance royalties.

I hate Ozzy Osbourne. I refuse to buy any of his material on account of the fact he's an asshole.

Not to mention it sucks.

Calum Robert, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There's no way this can improve on the original mix of "The Hex".

Sterling Clover, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

seeing as both these albums are widely available in their "classic" form in the $0.25 - $1.00 range, I wouldn't sweat it

fritz, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It just bugs me. Just the IDEA of it.

Lord Custos, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I bet RJ Dio wouldn't think of pulling something like this!

Andy K, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what's your source on this?

Steve K, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's legit -- what Custos is quoting from can be found here.

Lord Custos III, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Why, in the name of all that's holy, would Ozzy do this?"

I think you answered yr own question, LC

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So...recording over his old records...is the will of Satan?
Hopefully, a bolt of heavenly retrobution will dissuade him from doing similar "updating" to any of Randy Rhodes guitarwork.

Lord Custos III, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Randy Rhoads isn't around to sue him for back royalties

M Matos, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not without coming back from the dead....heh heh heh heh heh.

Lord Custos III, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

John Darnielle, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Zappa did a similar thing with some of the early mothers reissues, although he stated it was cuz some of the master tapes were damaged....

Baxter Wingnut, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the old 'we're only in it for the money' rocks more

chaki, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, it's kind of disturbing, but Mike Bordin is a good drummer, I'd kind of be interesting to hear it. Once.
