I love Mari Wilson's "Beat the Beat" -- I put that on a recent mix CD right next to Tracey Ullman's "They Don't Know" and Toyah Willcox's "It's a Mystery." As for Bananarama, I love "Cruel Summer" because the video was filmed in my neighborhood. Didn't Bananarama cover "Pretty Vacant" as a B-side? I've never heard it, and never seen an mp3 anywhere.

It was on a soundtrack to some sort of British film comedy or something -- Party Party was the name, I think? Also had Midge Ure doing "The Man Who Sold the World"...

Not sure what the question may be, but I can't pass up the chance to say that Mari Wilson was fantastic. I loved "Just What I Always Wanted" and the Showpeople album. Her version of the Bacharach song (and Rock Steady hit for Dawn Penn), "Are You There (With Another Girl)" was pure lusciousness. I always wondered what happened to Mari, cos I never saw another record of hers. She certainly left her mark on all the space age pop (for lack of a better cliche) acts that have followed.

Bananarama covered "No Feelings" on the Party Party soundtrack. My favorite song of theirs is "Cruel Summer", too. Mari Wilson-"The End of the Affair". Girls at Our Best, well I only know a couple of songs, so I'll say "Getting Nowhere Fast".

Curt, the last thing I heard of Mari Wilson doing was a musical based on the life of dusty springfield interview here It played in Newcastle, but I didn't see it. We did get posters on ms Wilson looking rowr all over the place for a while though. Her single covers, especialy the ones on compact are some of my favourite artifacts from the early '80's. Ha! Virna Lindt, classic or dud? *yr poster goes off on k-lame reverie)
