"Before you came, I was cruel and mean/ There was a hole in my life where my heart should've been"

Everyone seems to think "Live to Tell" is better, but it's not! It just "sounds like it's SUPPOSED to be better". Like, "OK let's make our bid for an immortal TV-film standard, get your pop brains workin', drama on 10 and muted-guitar on 6 for AC/CHR crossover!" Which is weird because 'CFY' really WAS written by pop hacks but sounds effortless, like something a 13-yr-old girl would've written but not in an indulgent Lena Zavaroni way or grotesque comedy Hanson way or (esp. not) a pervy way but in a "Wow, this person has natural talent of some sort for crafting pop tunes, will be worth watching in a few years!" kind of way, like if Kate Bush grew up in sunny suburbia not the Home Counties

Sorry man, but Swayzee's She's Like the Wind pisses enemas all over those two.

Both "Crazy For You" and "Live To Tell" are light-years better than "Hungry Eyes".

"Crazy For You" remains the definitive Madonna ballad; came out the same year as "Into the Groove", the definitive Madonna dance song. "Hungry Eyes" is Eric Carmen throwing away his legacy for Corey Hart leftovers.

I am going to have nightmares about Eric Carmen's legacy

GOD are you INSANE? Is it not obvious that 'Crazy for you' is a paen of unearthly pain delivered from space by the same immortal who designed the DNA of the various species and threw out misleading evolutionary clues to scientists, while 'Hungry Eyes' is a disgusting attempt by an unfeeling rejected molester of teenage girls to please his blase wife? 'Hungry Eyes' is about healthy Kruschen salts sex whereas 'Crazy for You' is about the conquest of infinity. Etc.

Sadly, this is not a very compelling 'taking sides'-- "Crazy For You" is far from a masterpiece, but it's not without its charms and it is one of the better vocals from Mrs. Ritchie (love the 'spoken' line in the last chorus).

If this were college hoops, Hungry Eyes wouldn't even make the NIT Tournament.

fourteen years pass...

heard "hungry eyes" in Togos today. so many songs of this ilk/period are just completely overbearing but this one is relatively light and uncomplicated. it's strange how the title words are sung in such a soft and indistinct manner, they're almost not sung at all, relative to the vocals that surround them. i think it's intended to foreground the title, but it's an odd effect. didn't work on me, anyway, i never knew this song's name until recently despite having heard it a zillion times throughout the years

"crazy on you" is pretty close to a masterpiece, what a supremely thrilling song

oh vs "crazy FOR you"? now it makes sense. "crazy for you" is ok, i guess. these are both pretty boring songs

Lol, I had also hoped it was about the Heart song, which is amazing.

my ears always hear "trying hard to control my fart" in the Madonna tune

Has to be "Crazy For You" which has one of the wickedest opening guitars ever
