Richie Hawtin vs Aeroplane

I just heard some bad news. Apparently Hawtin and Aeroplane will be playing in my country at the same date. Who deserves more to be seen?? I'm leaning toward Aeroplane because nowadays I listen to them more than I listen to Richie. Moreover, people say Hawtin's sets is such a joke in recent years but still it's fucking Richie Plastikman Hawtin we're talking about. I don't know. Any input?

I’ve seen both this year, and both were good, but Aeroplane were more fun. Just pick whichever you’re more in the mood for that week?

yeah, man. now it's 60:40 for aeroplane.

wait, "such a joke" is too harsh. "not as good as he's been before" sounds more right.

last time i saw Hawtin, in June, it was pretty jacking.

Pedro Paramore (jim), Tuesday, 27 October 2009 00:42 (sixteen years ago)

altho i have seen really boring sets by him too, so...

No offense, but maybe you should make a rolling-should-I-see-this-dj thread? ;)

But yeah, Aeroplane would probably be a lot more fun.

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 October 2009 08:36 (sixteen years ago)

this is like choosing between saving my lovely grandpa or my girlfriend in a fire accident.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Thursday, 29 October 2009 08:59 (sixteen years ago)

I officially eat my words, since I'm in a serious Radioslave vs. Daniel Bell jam this weekend (I'm aware that DB is a better DJ than 99.99% of all others, but there's a lot of factors...).

Can we PLEASE have a moratorium on any and all uses of the chin-stroking vs. hedonistic dancing binary.

But yeah, in 2009, Aeroplane puts it the best.

EDB, Thursday, 29 October 2009 14:28 (sixteen years ago)

I didn't say anything about hedonistic dancing! Just what I saw at each of their shows, and the latter was less dancing of any kind than "Oh I totally know this song! Here, taste my tongue" when they opened with Paris.

two weeks pass...

can the recent Aeroplane monthly mixes be an indicator of how their set would be? because they don't sit quite well with me.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 03:42 (sixteen years ago)

nah, those are just mixtapes for home rather than mixes for the floor

zing touch me I'm (sic), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 03:57 (sixteen years ago)

Well, it really depends on what Richie Hawtin's hair is doing these days. If it's designed for home use or for the floor.

it's sternly pointing at the floor, that's for sure

more girls at aeroplane

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 11:09 (sixteen years ago)

i've never really enjoyed a richie hawtin DJ set - he has a severe phobia of basslines imo

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 11:10 (sixteen years ago)

and by that i mean basslines that last for more than a 1-bar loop

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 11:11 (sixteen years ago)

this is good: http://soundcloud.com/r_co/richie-hawtin-tsugi-podcast-100-20-10-2009

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 18 November 2009 12:37 (sixteen years ago)

if Hawtin's going to play the Wee Papa Girl Rappers while a midget dances on the DJ booth maybe you should choose that?

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

My problem with Hawtin's DJ'ing style is his incredibly predictable eq'ing style. His old trick of dropping the bass and then bringing it back some bars later for a cheap crowd pleasing reaction is so very tired. Enough already!

v neck t-shirts are wrong, aren't they?

djh, Monday, 30 November 2009 18:04 (sixteen years ago)

depends on your looks.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 30 November 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

I keep reading this as Richie Havens, which would be a rather different thing.

I've never seen Hawtin, and part of me thinks I'd like to for old time's sake. So Hawtin.
