Hey!

Spencer Chow, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Planet of Sound"

Alex in NYC, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I dont care what anyone else says, it can only be 'Alec Eiffel'. Someone here once said that there are more amazing ideas within these 3 minutes than in many a band's entire output. (Including the Pixies? Hahaha...!)

In any case, I agree. I hope it plays in the club I'm going to later tonight, because I feel like dancing - no, flying! - on that song so much right now...

Simon, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Debaser"... See Ally's comments on the OPO Human League thread.

"Sure, the other songs are good, but DEBASER!?!?!"

Keiko, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Velouria"

sundar subramanian, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The single version of "River Euphrates."

Douglas, Friday, 12 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Broken Face" barely over "Gouge Away"

J Blount, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Another vote for "Debaser"

dave q, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Never loved the Pixies fully, but "Monkey Gone To Heaven" is the sort of song that could make me love them.

Dom Passantino, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Awww fuck, this is a difficult one. There's a lot of Pixies songs I couldn't imagine doing without but I think No 13 Baby just shades it. Somehow simulataneously the most typical Pixies song and also the best, and then there's THAT guitar solo at the end.

RickyT, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Though I love "Gigantic" my answer is probably "Tame".

Sean Carruthers, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'De-BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY-ser'!

DavidM, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

so so so many I just couldn't live without (very similar to XTC where i couldn't just pick one) but this time I will pick 'Gouge Away'.

Julio Desouza, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Something Against You". Its INTENSE!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

EXACTLY what I was thinking.

Chris Sallis, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Letter to Memphis

JM, Saturday, 13 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Caribou" (RE-PENT! RE-EH-PE-ENT!)

Ess Kay, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dig For Fire.

Matt DC, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

cactus

Barnaby, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"here comes your man"

jel --, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Monkey Gone to Heaven." My least favorite song on Doolittle when it came out, but now it almost makes me weep.

aaron, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Down To The Well - Peel Session version, the scream is one of the best ever, certainly better than the album version they recorded 4 years later.

Winkelmann, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Where is My Mind?"

o. nate, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

DEBASER!!!!

Dan Perry, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm a debaser man, myself. anyone know what the song's about?

dyson, Thursday, 18 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gouge away, followed by Debaser. (It's about this)

Dave225, Thursday, 18 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

a tossup between "no. 13 baby" (guitar solo) and "into the white" (makes you feel like yr falling)

geeta, Thursday, 18 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ten months pass...
Alec Eiffel.

stevo (stevo), Saturday, 14 June 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"Planet of Sound," but the JAMC cover comes close.

Chris Clark (Chris Clark), Saturday, 14 June 2003 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Letter To Memphis or Velouria.

Francis Watlington, Sunday, 15 June 2003 03:34 (twenty-two years ago)

something against you

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Sunday, 15 June 2003 07:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Number 13 Baby

I thought I was unusual for thinking that little solo at the end was like the best thing ever.

Ferg (Ferg), Sunday, 15 June 2003 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I've Been Tired

Andrew Frye (paul cox), Sunday, 15 June 2003 23:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I CAN'T DO IT! ARGH!

Oh Wait! Tony's Theme!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 15 June 2003 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

"This is a song about superhero named Tony..."

Yeah, I can see why it might be your favorite.

Andrew Frye (paul cox), Sunday, 15 June 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

TAME! TAME! TAAAAAAAME! TAAAAAAAAAAAAAME! TAAAAAAAAAAAAME!

Jamie Conway (Jamie Conway), Monday, 16 June 2003 05:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Tossup between "Hey!" and "Debaser" for me. And I prefer a non-album version of "Hey!" - poss. a Peel or Kershaw or someone session. Has a rougher, sadder guitar solo.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 16 June 2003 06:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm gonna say The Happening, mainly for the end/coda. which is really beautiful.
gauge away, velouria, and lovely day are close behind

Magic City (ano ano), Monday, 16 June 2003 13:10 (twenty-two years ago)

What about the slow dreampop version of "Wave Of Mutilation" from the "Pump Up The Volume" soundtrack?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 16 June 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

three years pass...

What happened to the Pixies reunion album promised? Even the Who delivered sooner than they did.

I've still got my copy of Surfer Rosa/Come On Pilgrim to entertain me.

Bimble, Monday, 11 June 2007 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

I think this thread was done before - I'm certain I recall naming "Gigantic" as my eternal favourite.

Oh well, even if not - there it is anyways.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Monday, 11 June 2007 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

Velouria

kornrulez6969, Monday, 11 June 2007 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

if i started listening them right now, i'm sure i couldn't decide. but with the comfortable distance i have right now i can easily say "Debaser."

later arpeggiator, Monday, 11 June 2007 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

I think this thread was done before

I think this is the thread you're thinking of, seeing as it started 5 years ago!

HI DERE, Monday, 11 June 2007 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

After hearing Bam Thwok do we need a reunion album?

I've got to go for Alec Eiffel...

James, Monday, 11 June 2007 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

Oh Christ I dunno. Er......yeah ok, Alec Eiffel. Pick any one from about 30 though really.

Chris in Belfast, Monday, 11 June 2007 23:34 (nineteen years ago)

"Velouria"

Pete Scholtes, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

VLRIA

Estaba pensando sobreviviendo con mi sister en New Jersey,
Ella me dijo que es una vida buena alla,
Bien rica bien chevere, Y voy! Puneta!

We'll keep well bred,
We'll stay well fed,
We'll have our sons,
They will be all well hung.

They'll come and play,
Their friends will say,
Your daddy's rich,
Your mamma's a pretty thing.

nicky lo-fi, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 07:57 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

"river euphrates."

J.D., Tuesday, 2 December 2008 06:53 (seventeen years ago)

Where is my mind. The use of it in Fight Club at the end where he becomes his alter ego as the skyscrapers collapse is chilling.

Dr X O'Skeleton, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 09:31 (seventeen years ago)

* spoilers *

StanM, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 09:55 (seventeen years ago)

Rock Music off Bossanova. It opens with feedback, screeches into one of their heaviest riffs, Black Francis screams over the whole thing, it has one break down, resumes, and then ends all at once.

I love all their music until Tromp Le Monde. That one never reached me somehow.

very much so

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 13:44 (fourteen years ago)

River Euphrates

or

Caribou

------------------

I've always found it sort of weird that Where is My Mind is so loved. It's one of my least fav Pixies songs.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 13:46 (fourteen years ago)

my friend told me abt where is my mind when i was 14/15 and i downloaded the nada surf cover, which i think i preferred to the original

nakhchivan, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 13:49 (fourteen years ago)

i get the shivers from where is my mind, unlike every other track on surfer rosa.

i love the smell of facepalm in the morning (ledge), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 13:52 (fourteen years ago)

u can see why they used its uncanny chiming guitar figure and fugue-state chorus refrain in the denouement of the controversial film 'fight club'

tipper gore (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 13:56 (fourteen years ago)

after a decade the nada surf cover is not really all that great, oh well

tipper gore (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 13:57 (fourteen years ago)

the song that made me want to investigate Pixies was "I've Been Tired" circa 1988 but I literally have not given that song another thought since then until now

chupacabra - a delicious burrito (DJP), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 14:10 (fourteen years ago)

Oh I love I've Been Tired!

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

Then again, I love Come On Pilgrim in general.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Tuesday, 21 June 2011 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

come on pilgrim is great, prefer it to surfer rosa
