Songs without verses

i was glad that someone mentioned Polyphonic Spree as 'soldier girl' has grown on me to the point that stopping myself singing it would require trepanning. But it struck me that I'm rarely taken with choruses ('soldier girl' consists of just one refrain)-so much of the music I love has no chorus or recurring instrumental hook. choruses are just so... unsophisticated sometimes, a meaningless scarf-waving lager-spilling vomit-staining mate-hugging celebration of nothing. that said, a fantastic chorus makes verses seem like thinking about margaret Thatcher to delay orgasm.

anyway, soldier girl is great, and i was wondering of your thoughts on songs without verses. has popular dance music killed the verse (only for it be resurrected by digital love) or was the traditional song pattern flawed all along with its fetish for the unnecessary? somehow ironically hip hop seems to be the current keeper of the traditional song format flame, and will its command over the type force the rock consensus towards less linear plains?

Who let the dogs out? Repeat X 100

If that song has a verse I havn't heard it.

There's verses, alright. Just can't make out the words (think one of them says 'dirty mongrel' at some point).

And Soldier Girl is indeed fan-bloody-tastic.

There is a verse. Something like "A doggy's not a doggy if it isn't in a kennel".

Beyond Belief?

Popular dance music has more or less killed the chorus too (at least, techno/progressive/trance/hardstyle/drum 'n bass/etc).

Is it true that "soldier girl" is going to be issued as a single by Fierce Panda? Bizarre.

I bet only 1/10 of you can remember the how the verse to the Youngbloods' "Get Together" goes. (yes, there definitely is one! it's so forgetable that no one remembers that it even exists)

Soldier Girl comes out on the 29th July. If either it, McAlmont & Butler or Gemma Hayes are nto number 1 the following Sunday, I will weep openly.

i wish 'funkytown' didn't have those totally un-funky verses in between the super funky choruses.

I wish "We Are Family" didn't have that unfunky chorus breaking up those funky verses.

"Pump Up The Volume"?

Just going through my MP3s I realized the La's "There She Goes" is essentially just a chorus, no verses, but I've never thought of it that way.
