Then there was the crowd:

But what does it MEAN! Aside from the fact that there are such things as free concerts.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It quite possibly means that -- and I am just venturing a WILD INSANE GUESS -- there are quite a lot of people who actually like Fatboy Slim's live DJ sets. (Me included.)

But DAMN that picture is scary. Is Norman trying for some sort of "Come To Daddy" video pose there?

Nate Patrin, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

there are quite a lot of people who actually like Fatboy Slim's live DJ sets.

It can't be true!

Is Norman trying for some sort of "Come To Daddy" video pose there?

I thought he was trying to out-Oakenfold Oakenfold.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

200,000 to 250, 000 turned up in Brighton according to reports, they only expected 60,000.

Is this the biggest music event in Britain in my lifetime, (I woz born 1970) - The Isle of Wight festival in 69 had around 200, 000? or more?

DJ Martian, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the biggest music event in my lifetime = birth of dj "dean" martian (1970, i believe)

mark s, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

''the biggest music event in my lifetime = birth of dj "dean" martian (1970, i believe)''

I think you actually meant that this is the biggest event in your life, mark s (not to put words into yr mouth or anything).

Julio Desouza, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know if it's the biggest in Britain, but the Berlin Loveparade drew approximately 1.2 million last year (but only 600,000 this year). Apparently the Zurich Streetparade also had 500,000+ attendants last year.

Siegbran Hetteson, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The queue for the off-licence in North Rd was ridiculous. I hadda crack a few skulls to get home I can tell ya. Did they let off fireworks? I heard fireworks, but we couldna see them. And damn that helicopter flying overhead was annoying.

Jerry, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Norman and his Big Beats : the dumbification of dance.

nathalie, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wonder who will intelligenficate dance now?

Julio Desouza, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, damn that Fatboy Slim for taking the braininess out of something as intellectually rich and profound as shaking one's ass. Damn him to Hell!

Nate Patrin, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the biggest event in my lifetime was yr birth julio

DO YOU SEE!!, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yup! that's just the way it should be mark s.

Julio Desouza, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hehe Stick those obscure twelve inch bootleg records up your ass, Nate. ;-) I might hate Freakpower more though. Hmm, tough choice.

nathalie, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Patrin's rule: whenever your opponent tells you to insert something rectally, YOU WIN THE ARGUMENT

Nate Patrin, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Besides, all my obscure bootlegs are in MP3 format and I don't have a USB port in my pooper so that's a no go.

Nate Patrin, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

USB? That is so passe. ;-)

nathalie, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nate, anyone knows: there are no rules.

nathalie, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nathalie i read that as "USB: Thats so posse", and the "dance music is a stupid genre, with no actual meaning" is the oldest rockist trick EVAH

Chupa-Cabras, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

nate and nath mud wrestle!

Julio desouza, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nathe. They are one being.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

THEY COME ONE - ONE - ONE - ONE...

vic, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Julio Desouza, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think this means that acid house is dead.

mt, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Everybody asks me if I know who Stevie Nixed is.

Nate Patrin, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaaaaaaaaaand I fuck up the Fight Club quote. That's it, I'm hopeless.

Nate Patrin, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the dumbification of dance music -- that's a short trip.

Jack Cole, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the first hour of the 2hr. set was literally just like the best bits of tong's essential selection from the past few weeks on shuffle play. all the usual suspects for this month (cosmos, mint royale's 'sexiest man', get me off remix by b. jaxx, etc etc) were present + correct.

he's past it.

piscesboy, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Another short trip would be for you to fuck off Jack.

Ronan, Monday, 15 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

BURNED!

bc, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was pretty glad I'd gone back to Ipswich for the weekend. Saw Ms Dynamite and Liberty X at Ipswich One Big Sunday instead.

Therefore: I win!

Well I would have done had I not had to also watch Kosheen, Idlewild and Natalie Imbuglia. When my girlfriend and I sat down when Natalie Imbruglia came on stage this bloke behind us loudly proclaimed that "we should get educated about music".

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i was on a bus on the isle of sheppey. there were speakers above the seats and they were playing radio 1 so i got to hear liberty x at the radio 1 show in ipswich, from just across the water, in a manner of speaking

gareth, Saturday, 20 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan has just become the greatest poster in ILX history.

Dom Passantino, Saturday, 20 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I do my best.

Ronan, Saturday, 20 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

twenty years pass...

The new documentary on this is definitely worth watching imo. Mostly because it's the sort of event that was really screaming for a doc to be made of it.

you can see me from westbury white horse, Sunday, 5 February 2023 20:15 (three years ago)
