viz., the Stockholm Monsters' _Alma Mater_, and the band Lifter Puller. Haven't heard either yet my self. But I'd like to know if anyone here is familiar with either or has been inspired by JD's musings to check either out. And so what do you think then.

ON SECOND THOUGHT after re-reading author's personal appeal for your reaction to these records (well the Monsters' one specifically), maybe starting a public thread right now is the wrong idea.

Lifter Puller's Fiestas & Fiascos is an experience most fantastic. This is all I know for certain in life.

Mr. Darnielle's assessment of Lifter Puller is right on -- a highly underrated band that deserved better (whatever that means -- wink). Certainly, Craig Finn has created some of the most compelling down trodden character driven songs in recent memory with the perfect accompaniment to boot. Supposedly in september the Self Starter Foundation is going to reissue Lifter Puller's first 2 out of print LPs and ep, something to look forward.

I have not been able to find this on LPTJ. What's he on about?

The Stockholm Monsters thing starts here, I think. You then have to click through the pages.

Mike Daily (who runs Stove Piper books and wrote the novel 'Valley') put together a great little 'zine about Lifter Puller.

try contacting him here?: Stovepiper Po Box 370895 Reseda, CA 91337 USA

or maybe try searching the 'net and maybe he'll send you a copy, definitely worth the read though...
