Okay, the 12 ft. lizards group (you can link/join to that from NYLPM) is actively plotting the new home of ILM and ILE. Please post all comments, updates and plans here to keep everyone in the loop!

New desperately necessary answers.

as i said in ILE we've got to get on with a move. Fuck URL names and 'improvements'. The ppl who have the know how have got to stop talking and start making arrangements for the move within the next four weeks (from reading 12ft lizards messages this could be a possibility but ppl do have other things to do but if thre is time then we should do it) .

so, what sort of discussion board software are you considering for the new home? are you hoping to transfer the LUSENET experience to somewhere else?

Pretty much, yes -- the idea is to bring in more behind the scenes goodness while keeping the basic interface simple and straightforward, since the functionality is so loved/appreciated/etc.

Well, I'll offer my perl skills if those are needed anywhere. I'm not much of a PHP user, but I don't think it's all that different of a language, if that's the solution that's being implemented & help is needed.

Thank ya, Lyra -- the direct link to the 12 ft. lizards group is here, so do join up and you'll be in the mix of the discussion, as well as being able to review the recent archives.

If anyone's wondering, I'm reprogramming a LUSENET clone in PHP/MySQL. Don't worry about extra features, I only started like three days ago and I'm already at least 2/3 of the way to a usable version with loads and loads of improvements. Expect a preview version to play with some time next week.

This is all being hosted on Andrew's machine, right? Just reconfirming!

There are open source alternatives like EZBoard that can be easily hosted somewhere.

But LUSENET is much nicer to use. Am I right in thinking that it uses an Oracle database? Are we trying to find someone then with spare room on their big expensive Oracle server? Could be tricky.

What are the other list administrators on LUSENET doing?

As a green newbie, can I just say that I'm totally impressed and in awe of the commitment and hard work that has gone into ILM/ILX to date and watching you all now pulling together and pooling your collective talents and skills is nothing short of astounding. *Gulp, sorry something in my eye*

Well done and respect to everyone involved.

Well probably on Andrew's server, but PHP and MySQL ar every portable, so we should be able to run it anywhere.

Graham, Saturday, 20 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

We could keep a Greenspun-like interface without Oracle, and the general consensus is that EZBoard/PHPBB/ect are a nightmare to use.
