My friend's wife works for the state dept and they're on the plane right now on the way to living in the Gambia for two years. I told him to grab some obscure mbalax lps if he could find any. Maybe in two years I'll bump this thread with some good stuff.

I usually think of Senegal re mbalax, but you are correct that Gambia has it too. Tell them to download songs by current act Big Faa to their phone, and send them to you. Haven't yet heard him myself, but am curious.

Big Faa, who released some famous rap-mbalax songs recently, said he is ready to represent The Gambia in flying its flag to higher heights.
Was reading about how some Europeans are going to various African countries and buying up vinyl and pushing up prices. Not sure how expensive cassettes are, as they were prevalent for awhile.
