on charges of rape and exortion. Says so here. I always liked him. I've played "Bouncin' Back" tens of times in the past few weeks. I guess this changes things.

I would have expected this from Jay-Z, but Mystikal?! Hrmph.

before we get into a 'distinguishing the artist from the artistic output debate', Mystikal's arrest doesn't make 'Bouncin' Back" (or "Alright" or "Danger" or "Big Truck Drive" or "Shake Ya Ass") any less good, but there's an element to his blustery, thuggy persona that I always found charmingly theatrical- the Mystikal bark simultaneously winked back to his 70s funk legacy and (with Neptunes in tow) blinged forward to the MTV-ready shiny gangsta-cool stuff, resulting in what sounded like a kind of protooled catharsis (and maybe that's why he's the perfect Neps client- the warm past/cold future combo is their schtick too).

Uhm, so what I'm, trying to say is that, if convincted, he's gonna be less cute now.

He never really seemed to *mean* it, y'know?

Sterling Clover, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it a rape charge because he's accused of sleeping with her? Because while I don't disagree with the charge, based on the description of what happened I would have expected a sexual harrassment charge rather than a rape charge. I can't articulate why, though.

The moral of the story? Don't steal money from thugs who sniff panties. (NOTE: I don't know if Mystikal actually sniffs panties.)

Dan Perry, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well dan, if he slapped her ass then it would be different, but the story is that she had sex under compromised consent i.e. bitch ima smack you bitch ima turn you in etc

(The other thing I want to know is if he's going to press charges against her for larceny/embezzlement.)

Dan Perry, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He videotaped it too, apparently. What's up with people taping their own felonies? Like, duh.

Great, one less rapper out there.

Marc, Friday, 19 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know what Sterling means - in the liner notes to "Tarantula" he sounds so soft and big-hearted, like a big gangsta shaped teddy bear.

This is not a "She deserved it!" comment, but is she going to be prosecuted for stealing his money?

Dan Perry, Sunday, 21 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

wasn't the "deal" no lawsuit in exchange for sex? mystikal can't conplain that she didn't hold up her end of the bargain! pah - the news always just serves to make me wonder what the real story is. how did she get access to his bank account? what was she doing in his house? and she was like 40 yrs old or something?

Not to be pedantic or anything, but please remember that an arrest isn't a conviction, and that neither arrest nor conviction have to have much to do with actual guilt.

Colin Meeder, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Should it bother me so much that no one is focusing on the fact that this woman BY HER OWN ADMISSION stole money from Mystikal and could have avoided this situation by owning up to it and going to jail?
