so, what's your favourite? inspired by bonzo dog doo dah band's 'the intro and the outro'. "introducing general de gaulle on accordian... really wild, general!"

matthew james, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

new answers... plus got that wrong. "yeah, digging general de gaulle on accordian..."

The Beta Band Rap - "stone cold love, motherfucker..."

Damian, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the monks "it's monk time" not only an intro for a band, the intro for ALL PUNK ROCK EVER

Ligament's 'good times' -- "hey fuckers!...Ligament's in tha house!..."

my favourite off the top of my head...and for its slight ridiculousness/amusement value too..

How about 'Re-Make/Re-Model': the first song on the first Roxy Music album?

The bit where everyone gets a bar to do a solo is brilliant, I especially love Eno's bit where he just makes a few wibbly synth sounds

The breakdown in "Remake/Remodel" is one of my top-five Roxy Music moments - love that "Day Tripper" quote!

J Blount, Monday, 22 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Fuck, it IS a "Day Tripper" quote, isn't it? Heard that song now for over a decade and it never occured to me until now!

Weird Al "It's time to introduce the band! John this is Bill, Bill John, etc." har har

We Are The Now-Tones by Blotto. Is the most wonderful pisstake of every barband's introducing the band song ever. "Listen to the drummer, he's such a ham, if he would shut up, then maybe we could jam."

I wish I could remember more of it, but I think Blotto were soley an Upstate NY phenomenon. (Except maybe Lifeguard.)

Pretenders: "I think I'll bother to introduce the band tonight ... on Bass, (whatever whatever) ... and my name is Miss M-I-S-S Hynde."

or... "On Bass, Derek Smalls. On the Bass Drum, Mick Shrimpton. On Bass Keyboard, Viv Savage. On Bass, Nigel Tuffnel. My name is David St. Hubbins, Lead Bass." (Big Bottom)

Spoken bits in general:

The Higsons (when coming back for an encore): Some people are on the pitch...they think it's all over

Jez, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'twas the Nowtones front man who needed to shut up, not the drummer.

Colin Meeder, Tuesday, 23 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

twenty-two years pass...

Favourite would be stretching it, a lot, but I find myself thinking about this surprisingly often

This is Dan
And that's Dan
And there's Marty on the drums
To complete the band
And I'm John
And he is also John
And all of us are wondering
When you're gonna die

Not quite the same thing but I’ve always had a soft spot for songs where they build up the groove by introducing the parts - sly and the family stone “dance to the music” & “soul food” by lynn tait are great examples but there are loads.
