I'll away and think about this

Tom D (Tom D.), Thursday, 4 March 2010 11:04 (fourteen years ago) link

Ugh, couldn't you have included "Associates" in the title? This thread will be forever lost.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Thursday, 4 March 2010 12:16 (fourteen years ago) link

rionat - according to wikipedia, the last 5 tracks were added to the 2000 CD reissue

Not needed then or now

Tom D (Tom D.), Thursday, 4 March 2010 13:24 (fourteen years ago) link

What about their version of "Kites" ?

Mark G, Thursday, 4 March 2010 13:32 (fourteen years ago) link

"Tell Me Easter's On Friday" just beating "White Car in Germany" if I had to choose between them.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 4 March 2010 14:31 (fourteen years ago) link

Vice versa for me, I think

Tom D (Tom D.), Thursday, 4 March 2010 14:35 (fourteen years ago) link

^ ditto on the vice-versing

nerve_pylon, Thursday, 4 March 2010 14:41 (fourteen years ago) link

wait, so which one did you vote for then? I'm so confused.

noted schloar (dyao), Thursday, 4 March 2010 14:42 (fourteen years ago) link

kitchen person may be, at least sonically, the most venemous track I have ever heard in my life.

noted schloar (dyao), Thursday, 4 March 2010 14:42 (fourteen years ago) link

Hard to ignore "Message Oblique Speech" too

Tom D (Tom D.), Thursday, 4 March 2010 14:44 (fourteen years ago) link

"white car in germany", such a majestic opener + great fake-out ending

im armond white btw (donna rouge), Thursday, 4 March 2010 15:08 (fourteen years ago) link

This album is GREAT.
Voted for Kitchen Person, but White Car, Message and Tell Me Easter are all classics.

White Car, Message Oblique Speech and the Associate are the ones I always come back to, though I love the whole thing.

dan selzer, Thursday, 4 March 2010 18:22 (fourteen years ago) link

Yay mod title change!

I voted for "White Car" but, yeah, this album is nutsy good across the board.

i wrote a bit about two of these songs on this old epic blog post:

"Message Oblique Speech" for me - pure magic! duking it out with "Skipping" as their best ever.

As long as we're all here let me publicize Steve Aungle's blog about working with Billy M. again -- doesn't cover this era but still an insight into a wonderful, frustrating person and artist:

three weeks pass...

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I can't believe I didn't see this poll earlier.

I voted for White Car In Germany, the fake ending is one of my favourite moments in music.

The Associate is a really underrated song, so funky and really stands out as the big pop moment on this compilation.
