The "Honest Strings: A Tribute to the Life and Work of Jack Rose" compilation

This feels even more saddening to bring up today given Mark Linkous's passing earlier, and it could have easily gone on many separate threads besides the one about Jack, but given the scope of this release I think it deserves its own thread. I'd heard about this a couple of weeks back from Cory at Three Lobed via a mailing list but more is now forthcoming via a mailout from Eclipse tonight. It's one of those things that should not have to exist because it only does due to tragedy, but sounds really wonderful given what did happen. Here's the word so far, quoting Cory via the Eclipse mailout:

---

It should come as no secret to anyone who reads these updates that we were pretty shocked about the December passing of our friend Jack Rose. While it has been tough around here and actions are no substitute for the man himself, we have been busy curating a download-only tribute "album" to Jack. This compilation is monstrous and insanely full of good material - it's a very fitting tribute to the man. We are currently putting some finishing technical touches on this one as we type this message but the compilation, "Honest Strings: A Tribute To The Life And Word Of Jack Rose," will be up within the next couple of week exclusively from the download portion of the Thrill Jockey site, FINA. We will send out another message on this list as soon as the compilation is available for sale. This compilation will cost $15, an absolute bargain for what you are getting, and 100% of the purchase price will go to Jack's estate. The compilation itself is, get this, six and a half hours long. Yes, you read that right. The list of featured artists is absolutely bonkers, too. Here it is, in no particular order:

I remember thinking some sort of tribute would be good and wondering if I could help get one off the ground, so when I heard about this I was terribly pleased, but also simply amazed given the amount of music. It's very much something that probably couldn't've been done before on this kind of a scale.
