CLASSIC!

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I miss you....

Chris, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

NO NO FUCKING NO, Chris. I have heard other Klymaxx songs that were quite good -- BUT! "I Miss You" was the plague of my radio-listening existence when it suddenly became a hit in 1986 a couple of years after it was recorded. Jesus H., the loathing I had for it -- just a really, really terrible chorus, eurgh.

"I miss you and meeeee...."

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

You know, I *WAS* going to at least buy you a drink in October, but now I think I'll buy it to pour over your head (while Joei LARFS nonstop).

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Taking sides: "I Miss You" or "The Words Get In The Way"?

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ouch, that IS a comparison of horror. *thinks*

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Wait, we need to also include that 1988-era remake/medley of "Baby I Love Your Way"/"Freebird" that that one duo did.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

makes ya cringe Ned eh?

Chris, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ever so slightly. Play it at your wedding and I will abuse you severely in October.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

no, i hate it as well. I liked it as a twelve yr old in 86, in fact i got the tape for xmas one year.

Chris, Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

ooh, forget the ballads -- seek the Men All Pause/Meeting in the Ladies Room megamix!

scott pl., Wednesday, 24 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Classic.. if only for "The Men All Pause" and "Meeting In The Ladies' Room"

My mom was initially disgusted with "The Men All Pause" when it was all over the radio initially... she was like..."How HORRIBLE! Why would anyone want to hear a song about MENOPAUSE?"

Klyssic@@!!

three months pass...
There's actually a Klymaxx thread. Only on ILM.

"The Men All Pause" is classic. How's the rest of that album?

Klymaxx are like the secret godmothers of the current great bling-hop women (Khia, Trina etc.)

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 09:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

Klymaxx was great, Meeting in the Ladies room

so just walked bavck into my office and heard for the first time in years Lisa Lisa's "take you home" now thats classic

H (Heruy), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 10:59 (twenty-one years ago) link

I still hear that Lisa Lisa song on the radio occasionally -- she was one of my favorite artists from that time, sort of a secret godmother of J.Lo, except her feisty city-kid schtick was more convincing (and more feisty).

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 11:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

there should be a Klymaxx/Lisa Lisa best of on one disc, there are lots of artists who i want 3 or 4 songs not a full album so the above or Lisa Lisa/Mary Jane Girls etc.

H (Heruy), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 11:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

Or you could just download the songs...

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 11:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

now there's a solution
but
no cool liner notes and 80s photos and i like cds

H (Heruy), Wednesday, 30 October 2002 11:38 (twenty-one years ago) link

I like H's approach.

one year passes...
Very classic, for "The Men All Pause" and "Meeting in the Ladies Room". Those songs were mysterious and beguiling, the ladies of Klymaxx sounding assured and secretive like some feminine illuminati - the little conversational asides that peppered the songs, etc.

I'm sure at some point in my life I heard that ballad thing, but thankfully can't recall it at the moment.

Mmmmhmm...I just found these two Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis produced tracks: "Wild Girl" & "Heartbreaker". Mmmm hmmm.

Classic for the spoken word part: "I had on my Gianni Versace blue leather suit and I was lookin' FIERCE"

oh thank god, there's a klymaxx thread

"meeting in the ladies room" is an instant rush and unlike coke doesn't lose its fun with repeated use.
