c'mawn c'mawn c'mawn feel it feel it

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 27 May 2010 04:47 (sixteen years ago)

The amount that I love Marky Mark's "Good Vibrations" is truly embarrassing.

I love that piano riff. And that piano solo. And every fucking line of that song.

I have cast my vote.

I really wish that the Beach Boys song was worse so that I would feel less ashamed right now.

I used to hate the Marky Mark one, but I think it had to do more with the video... also the fact that I thought the dude wasn't really doing anything other than a poor job at rapping. There's just something about Mark Wahlberg I don't like, I guess. That said the house piano and the female vocal sample? are both awesome!
But anyone who's listened to both (I guess you haven't, Kenny) and doesn't vote for the Beach Boys is either deaf or insane.

BTW, if anyone hasn't listened to the Beach Boys one, you need to listen to the studio version, not the video above (sorry crüt):

Mark's version is so overused in just about every pop phenomenon, commercials really, that The Beach Boys version - while I think an overrated song - is a complete breath of fresh air.

kelpolaris, Thursday, 27 May 2010 05:15 (sixteen years ago)

I agree with the Beach Boys one being overrated. I think all the twists are little bit too much. But the intro alone is out this world.

impossible decision

I sincererely hope that Beach Boys will walk this.

I mean, a bit of completely worthless rubbish representing the early 90s at their very worst, up against one of the greatest masterpieces of musical history.

Even I will vote for the Beach Boys, but Marky Mark's is a wonderful song ("I wanna see seat comin' out yo PORES").

Gotta agree with Geir on this one, guys.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 27 May 2010 14:05 (sixteen years ago)

no you don't

in fact everyone should now vote Marky Mark so that Geir explodes

I've never heard it and I'm voting for it

Wenlock & Mandelson (Tom D.), Thursday, 27 May 2010 14:18 (sixteen years ago)

i'm not sure what disagreements do to Geir but i'm pretty sure it's not make him explode

some dude, Thursday, 27 May 2010 14:21 (sixteen years ago)

marky mark

iatee, Thursday, 27 May 2010 14:21 (sixteen years ago)

voting for Nate Dogg

musically, Thursday, 27 May 2010 18:35 (sixteen years ago)

i LOVE the marky mark song and i kind of want him to do me but the beach boys one is just amazing. tough decision though :(

teledyldonix, Thursday, 27 May 2010 19:09 (sixteen years ago)

I cannot vote in this poll because it doesn't exist. Nobody would even think to ask the implied question. It would be like asking "Do you prefer really great sex, or Having both legs sawn off without anesthesia?"

That said, the Geir-splatter idea is an interesting one. :-)

ImprovSpirit, Thursday, 27 May 2010 21:49 (sixteen years ago)

I want to be like Geir.

PappaWheelie V, Thursday, 27 May 2010 22:46 (sixteen years ago)

Nah, it's more like asking "Do you prefer really great sex, or a successful marriage?" Both sides have their advocates.

the real question is, how seriously are you taking this decision? and the other real question is, do you hate fun?

^^^ btw I am 100% for this if you can also find an embed-enabled version of the first vid

Marky Mark's GV reminds me of feeling genuinely happy and young. The Beach Boys' GV reminds me of feeling artificially happy and young.

Moka, Saturday, 3 July 2010 08:30 (fifteen years ago)

Sadly, in retrospective, I'm more prone to feel artificially happy and young.

Moka, Saturday, 3 July 2010 08:33 (fifteen years ago)

the beach boys song has two great moments and the rest of it is a bit lame, but it's obviously superior to mark wahlberg lol.

twelve years pass...

sorry but marky mark’s “good vibrations” is a better house / hip house track than beyonce’s “show me love” knockoff

the late great, Saturday, 13 August 2022 22:35 (three years ago)

also this should have been much closer, pretty sad that old ilx couldnmt FEEL IT FEEL IT

the late great, Saturday, 13 August 2022 22:36 (three years ago)

I easily prefer Marky Mark's to the Beach Boys'. I really do quite love it even though his rapping is a bit hard to chew.

Also, I'm thinking, one of two US 1991 No. 1s that sound like they *could* have been British but weren't (Memory Bliss is the other but obv no Brit would have dared sample True, at least at the time. No such cultural self-consciousness of that sort for PM Dawn thankfully).

you can see me from westbury white horse, Saturday, 13 August 2022 22:48 (three years ago)

his rapping is not any worse than, say, tyree cooper or k.i.d. (from dj mink’s “hey hey can u relate”) although yeah given his public persona then and now a bit harder to swallow

the late great, Saturday, 13 August 2022 22:59 (three years ago)

though as much as i like that track i much prefer just about everything tyree and dj mink

the late great, Saturday, 13 August 2022 23:02 (three years ago)

Shut up, dicks

Josefa, Saturday, 13 August 2022 23:20 (three years ago)

gosh josefa sorry if marky mark appreciation has you shook, but i'm here to prove to you that we can party on the positive vibe, and pump positive vibes, so come along for the ride

the late great, Saturday, 13 August 2022 23:30 (three years ago)

Ok if you put it that way then I’m down for the sweet ride

Josefa, Saturday, 13 August 2022 23:34 (three years ago)

great news! give it another listen, i'm sure you will find pure enjoyment in the rhythm and rhyme that's designed to / make your behind move to what i'm inclined to
