Message Bookmarked

wiki says the title was a nod to sgt peppers and the white album. this album has a more pro vibe whereas some ween rekkids can be less so. and it just knotched the 10 this year. hell p-fork gave it 8 outta 10

STROKER ACE

truffleupagus (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 20:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Flutes of the chi. so good even my mom loves it. But the live version from wayyy back (like '94 or so) on the Rotten Cheese bootleg is even better.

Mr. Snrub, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 20:53 (thirteen years ago) link

hard to pick a favorite. this album's as good as who's next or village green preservation society or something. "stay forever"/"falling out" is almost like a single song suite, the guy from "falling out" pissed at the guy from "stay forever" for pretending he loved him and then stealing all his cash

kamerad, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 21:40 (thirteen years ago) link

love the opener so much. this is the only ween album ive ever heard u_u

exactly where I'm at.

Cunga, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 22:25 (thirteen years ago) link

this one's a grower -- maybe it's b/c ween's output during the 2000s overall wasn't anywhere as great as it was during the 1990s.

anyway, i voted for "exactly where i'm at" -- in a perfect world, that song should be an indie radio staple.

i don't know if that's what i meant. i guess what i meant was that the production on this album is more polished, and less lo-fi than say the pod or god wean satan the oneness

she's your baby

STAY FOREVER. Best song they ever made. Utterly perfect.

the pod was pretty polished, too ... but i do see your point, white pepper does sound kind of slick compared to real-early ween.

No Guru, No Method, No Teacher (Eisbaer), Wednesday, 2 June 2010 02:05 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm pretty sure this is the only Ween album not produced by Andrew Weiss.

the pod was recorded straight to four-track, duder

maybe dude meant 'polished' as refering to the influence of huffing scotchgaurd

"the pod was pretty polished, too"

fuck is wrong w/ u

whoops, y'all are right ... i meant the mollusk, not the pod. my mistake.

it was pretty funny.

Is that The Pod remaster any better? What about GWS too?

PaulTMA, Friday, 4 June 2010 01:51 (thirteen years ago) link

Exactly Where I'm At should dominate. After that, Back to Basom, Flutes of Chi, and She's Your Baby are more than worthy.

I loved the hell out of Ween at the time of this record. They were great live, fond of playing Band on the Run and 'Ohio' on this tour, if memory serves.

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Friday, 4 June 2010 02:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Basom. Xpost: yes, the GWS remaster sounds *way* better.

dlp9001, Friday, 4 June 2010 02:44 (thirteen years ago) link

this is prolly my second-least-favorite ween record but i still like it a lot

i will rank them now

God Ween Satan
Chocolate And Cheese
The Pod
The Mollusk

La Cucaracha

White Pepper

La Cucaracha is by far the worst Ween album...

Voted for Stay Together but I love all these songs (other than maybe Falling Out.)

ColinO, Friday, 4 June 2010 07:07 (thirteen years ago) link

Favourites: Bananas and Blow, Stroker Ace, Stay Forever, She's Your Baby (and, hey, what about Ice Castles!??!?). Sorry to be predictable, but voted Stay Forever.

Wenlock & Mandelson (Tom D.), Friday, 4 June 2010 09:07 (thirteen years ago) link

also wtf nobody's mentioned the power of stroker ace and the grobe? the wierd lucidity of ice castles? the overall vibe of wide eyed empathy through songs like where i'm at, flutes of the chi, even if you don't . . . i think this album is loaded. every track is a winner. i'm gonna poll this sumbitch . . .

Stay Together gotta win this. It's weird that the song I like best song like their straightest, slickest and most sincere.
