Amazingly, there is an obituary in The Guardian today informing me of this - it say he died on July 11th. I'm shocked that I hadn't heard before - he was a great singer, and his '50s R&B was a big influence on the formation of reggae - listen to his No More Doggin' and the early Jamaican cover.
