I'm about to start a music quiz over on ILE (because I like it there best). If anyone's interested in joining in, it's here.

Martin, ILM needs you here.

seven years pass...

All right, this quiz didn't get as much attention on Sporcle as I was hoping, so I'll post it here:

I tried it but did pretty bad, I think I only got like 14?

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 19:24 (seven years ago) Permalink

It was interesting to me that there were more between 1958-63 than in the entire next 30 years.

jaymc, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 19:31 (seven years ago) Permalink

23/40... got the entire right column except Tommy Page. Only got MJ, Stevie Wonder, Lulu, and Lesley gore on the other column. So bad at remembering who sang those oldies I've heard a bajillion times.

he's always been a bit of an anti-climb Max (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 19:31 (seven years ago) Permalink

Yeah, I doubt I would've gotten too many of those, either.

jaymc, Tuesday, 4 May 2010 19:33 (seven years ago) Permalink

ha I think I did a little better on the early stuff

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 19:34 (seven years ago) Permalink

30/40. Got 'em all up to the Bobby Brown era, spotty on stuff thereafter (other than ubiquitous Britney songs.)

This was fun, I got 15 in about 2 minutes then got bored.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Tuesday, 4 May 2010 19:50 (seven years ago) Permalink

Haha, glad it was good for two minutes of fun, anyway, before the ennui set in!

Damn! 35/40 and I got the first name of one right (of a dude born the same exact day as me). Fun.

23/40; good quiz, jaymc

Thanks! Someone pointed out that I forgot to include another song. :/

jaymc, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 14:48 (seven years ago) Permalink

I only got 7, but there were a few D'OH! moments when the answers came up.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 16:12 (seven years ago) Permalink

Bah, only 6.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 21 September 2010 16:36 (seven years ago) Permalink

That one that requires "and the xxxx" after the name is kinda not fair.

Overblown 80's Gated Snore (Dan Peterson), Tuesday, 21 September 2010 16:46 (seven years ago) Permalink

This is one of the hardest you've done. I only got 6.

Eric H., Tuesday, 21 September 2010 16:50 (seven years ago) Permalink

xp Sorry about that. For the album title A B and the C, I'd set it to accept "A B and the C," "B," and "C," but not "A B." Fixed now.

jaymc, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 16:50 (seven years ago) Permalink

I feel quite chuffed at getting 8 then but this was tough

Mo Tucker Mo Problems (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 21 September 2010 18:13 (seven years ago) Permalink

Yeah, I guess I wouldn't have gotten much more than that myself, had I not created the quiz, but I also don't think I chose any albums that were too obscure.

jaymc, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 18:29 (seven years ago) Permalink

Nah there were a couple more I felt I shoulda got, it was a fair quiz.

Mo Tucker Mo Problems (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 21 September 2010 18:40 (seven years ago) Permalink

I got eight as well.

Mark G, Tuesday, 21 September 2010 18:46 (seven years ago) Permalink

7, there were a few more I should have got. Good quiz!

Harnessing the power of the collective…

ILM please help me solve the following:

B = ADB, SAD, WWB
D = IR, UB, VOTD
L = S, S, S
Z = ABOD, GOS, SC

The initial letters are all popular musical acts with a single word name (no definite article in front), could be any genre or any era. The initials after the equals sign are albums released by said act.

Example:
A = GAG, R, TITA (Aerosmith = Get A Grip, Rocks, Toys In The Attic)

We've solved the other 22 letters of the alphabet, it's just the four above we're stuck on) but if you're bored I can post the whole quiz.

Jeff W, Sunday, 31 December 2017 15:17 (two weeks ago) Permalink

B is Boyzone (A Different Beat, Said and Done, Where We Belong)

Gholdfish Killah (Turrican), Sunday, 31 December 2017 15:59 (two weeks ago) Permalink

It's probably cheating, but if you Google VOTD (as I did) you can probably solve D. These are hard!

eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Sunday, 31 December 2017 16:02 (two weeks ago) Permalink

I should have got Dragonforce! Thanks, both.

Jeff W, Sunday, 31 December 2017 16:16 (two weeks ago) Permalink

Went the Google route to solve D. I'd never even heard of them, so I don't fancy my chances with L or Z.

Dan Worsley, Sunday, 31 December 2017 16:19 (two weeks ago) Permalink

Found Z. A German hard rock band of recent vintage. There's a much better Russian space disco act with the same name.

Jeff W, Sunday, 31 December 2017 17:39 (two weeks ago) Permalink

No wait, the disco act were from what's now Latvia, not Russia (sorry).

Jeff W, Sunday, 31 December 2017 17:44 (two weeks ago) Permalink

L should be easy.. S, s, s

Nope

Mark G, Sunday, 31 December 2017 23:55 (two weeks ago) Permalink

Lush: Scar, Spooky and Split, perhaps? Does Scar count as an album?

Jeff W, Monday, 1 January 2018 13:00 (two weeks ago) Permalink

Led Zeppelin S/T I, II & III ;)
