A "friend of a friend" put him in touch with a nefariousunderworld figure who went by the name of "Artie." Artieexplained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out aspouse was $5,000. The husband said he was willing to pay that amountbut that he wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect hiswife's insurance money.
Artie insisted on being paid something up front. The man opened uphis wallet, displaying the single dollar bill that rested inside.Artie sighed, rolled his eyes, and reluctantly agreed to accept thedollar as down payment for the dirty deed.
A few days later, Artie followed the man's wife to the local Safewaygrocery store. There, he surprised her in the produce department andproceeded to strangle her with his gloved hands.
As the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath and slumped tothe floor the manager of the produce department stumbled unexpectedlyonto the scene. Unwilling to leave any witnesses behind, Artie had nochoice but to strangle the produce manager as well.
Unknown to Artie, the entire proceedings were captured by hiddencamera and observed by the store's security guard, who immediatelycalled the police.
Artie was caught and arrested before he could leave the store. Underintense questioning at the police station, Artie revealed the sordidplan, including his financial arrangements with the hapless husband.

I've never ever heard Steve Forbert out in the wild until today when I stopped by a Walgreen's and heard "Romeo's Tune."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYMu2qgOiJs
Maybe I had to be from an earlier generation, but I've never heard anyone I know mention his name, much less play his music. The only reason I know about him is because I once checked out that book Jimmy Guterman wrote about his 100 favorite rock albums and he championed Alive on Arrival. I do like his stuff and even though this was a genuine hit (#11 in the U.S.) it's still a surprise to hear it come on. (This particular Walgreen's usually plays '80s hits, mostly titled towards the middle or end of the decade.)

David Berman on Ryan Adams: “I don’t expect to be insulted by being told Ryan Adams in the best songwriter in America. Maybe mid-period Steve Forbert B-sides sound fresh to some ears.”
Whenever I hear “Romeo’s Tune” in the wild, it sticks in my head for a few days, not in a bad way.

Wiki says Romeo’s Tune went to #11 on the US pop chart and Jackrabbit Slim peaked at #20 on the album chart in 1979. I was owned the album.

Are Interpol the Steve Forbert of postpunk revival acts? (See www.nerdmagazine.org/forbert.html.) Are they, as The New York Times would have it, the beginning of the end of the New York rock underground? Is Matador the Steve Forbert of indie rock labels? Will Interpol teach us to dance again? Are Interpol and the Strokes the Stray Cats of a new era? (Loved the Stray Cats, by the way. And the Polecats! In fact, Jack White could do a helluva cover of their “Make a Circuit With Me”: “Diode, cathode, electrode, overload, generator, oscillator/make a circuit with me!”) Do I prefer the postpunkatronicacore of the Doves over Interpol? Probably not. No. Maybe. Perhaps. I don’t see why not. Yes.
