i thought i posted a thread about them? maybe not. i know i've talked about them on here. i'm a fan. chuck's a fan.

i probably talked about them pre-youtube though. and probably had to make do with posting archaic "pictures" of them.

Hahah cool. So what was their deal? They sure seem like a band I would have seen on some random TV special around that time.

they were bigger in france and germany and stuff. their album On The Road Again was billed as *Tom n' Jerry's Rockets* here. the title track from that might have been their only u.s. presence. i like most of their stuff up to the galaxy album. don't know after that.

i need a copy of the first album. i never ever see it. don't think it got a u.s. release. on the road again was the first u.s. thing, i think. third album plasteroid came out here. they had a live album and i don't think that was released here either. and then galaxy which probably sold all of 5 copies in the states. i dunno why they didn't hit it big here. daft punk fans who've never heard rockets might feel a little ripped off if you play them a few tracks.

What I wrote about them in a "Space Rock Essentials" column in Spin a couple years back:

Rockets Plasteroid (Rockland 1979)

These silver-skinned French baldies rock your Spock off like a flying saucer linking Roxy Music to “Pop Muzik,” or Kraftwerk at a mud-boogie festival – and with songs entitled “Legion Of Aliens” and “Back To Your Planet” to boot. For their totally ruling youtube clips, search under “Les Rockets”; and check out Space’s likewise French but more celestial disco 1977 “Magic Fly” while you’re at it.

I can also vouch for their 1992 GCD Italy CD comp Galactica -- but yeah, Scott and I have definitely talked about them now and then on ILM before.

Yeah, on my recent trip to Italy, I saw this two disc compilation in the bargain bin at a CD store, and I had to get it, site unheard. Fortunately, the gamble paid off. Love these guys. Everything I enjoy about space rock and synthpop rolled into one. Definitely see the seeds of Daft Punk, Blue Man Group, etc. here.
