I've always wanted to poll a music fest lineup with ZERO beloved performers, by ILX standards. Thanks to Ned Raggett for pointing this one out on Facebook. Super easy target, holy shit, I mean look at this, it's horrific!! Is there ANYONE you'd wanna check out???

Hey I don't see Steez on that list.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 01:36 (twelve years ago) link

REO Speedwagon have a doozy of a greatest hits record. I enjoy it without irony.

ohhhh ilxor u missed steez!

What? This thing gets two threads? Whatever, Canadians representing for The New Deal! (real answer: Skrillex).

everything, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 04:40 (twelve years ago) link

Keller Williams is actually a pretty talented dude, but wastes it on the 99% of his songs that are complete ass. Galactic, iirc, used to be pretty decent too until they decided to go full throttle for the jamband scene.

Hey I don't see Steez on that list.

he was too far down on the billing, i got to 50 poll options and had to stop

Ned/cad: are you guys writing in votes for Steez?

i genuinely thought when i first joined that he was the admin (ilxor), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 04:48 (twelve years ago) link

Steez clearly exist in their own universe.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 04:55 (twelve years ago) link

Steezness described:

Categorization be damned, the Madison-based five piece, Steez, consisting of Matt Williams (keyboards/synthesizers/accordion), Steve Neary (guitar and vocals), Rob Bessert (drums), Chris Sell (bass), and Andrzej Benkowski (saxophone, oboe, and violin) is — in the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions – a funk band, a jamband, a fusion band, a disco-fanged multi-beast, and a basket case.

Churning out their self-described Creepfunk, a high energy, danceable variety of funk — one uniquely laced with electronic and improvisational sensibilities – Steez has garnered a loyal following throughout the Midwest. After receiving repeated acclaim for their live performances, which typically include a seamless weaving of thoughtfully composed originals and crowd pleasing covers spanning from Madonna to clever obscurities like Genialistid (Estonia), Steez hit the studio and released their first full length album, Creepfunk Crusade, in August 09 with independent label, Mason Jar Records.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 04:58 (twelve years ago) link

Meanwhile, the grammatical wonder that is Future Rock:

Mickey Kellerman and Felix Moreno, alongside drummer Darren Heitz, are the driving force behind Future Rock. During their explosive live show, all three mibers wield synthesizers, live loops and samples-Kellerman on the keys, Moreno on the bass, Heitz on drums-to form an amalgamation of excitient, constructed completely live onstage. The Chicago trio has been perfecting its brand of live-instrument dance music since 2004 and-just like Future Rock’s pulsating and escalating anthis-their momentum is about to explode. Their live riixes of Black Moth Super Rainbow and Death from Above 1979 are sweeping proof of Future Rock’s riarkable riix skills. But that’s not all.

No need, your riarkable riix skills are enough.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 05:12 (twelve years ago) link

This is more like an opening act festival. They should have reduced it to 2 days instead of 4, fire half of these clowns and hire at least two or three rising acts people actually care about.

Yeah I am disgusted at this cheapening of the name of the Electric Forest Festival, Rothbury MI

If I was at that festival I might be tempted to go and see Tiesto just to see what all the fuss was about.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 10:42 (twelve years ago) link

I am planning to go to Boomtown Fair in August though, and that could go one of two ways.

The Boy Who Can Go Inside The TV (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 10:45 (twelve years ago) link

I remember a few years ago having friends who were so psyched for this festival...I think Jack Johnson (!) headlined in 2008

pwn thugs n harmony (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 11:30 (twelve years ago) link

I assume everyone on this line-up falls into one of the following genres:

- Israeli psytrance
- prog
- hippy acid techno/post Steve Hillage ambient
- fifth rate dubstep
- the kind of dub reggae bands who play a small tent at every single festival in the world, all year long

Matt DC, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 11:43 (twelve years ago) link

Oh and probably some folk as well.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 11:44 (twelve years ago) link

best festival ever, clearly

aka best bum of the o_O's (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 11:45 (twelve years ago) link

Looks like a few jam bands and bluegrass groups too.

NickB, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 11:47 (twelve years ago) link

I assume one of them is a brass band playing Nirvana and Radiohead covers on a Sunday morning as well.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 11:48 (twelve years ago) link

Y'know, despite all the lolling at this - isn't this kind of what a festival should be about, rather than billions of couch-potatoes drinking overpriced alcopops masquerading as cider watching Coldplay in a heavily gated field etc..?

The Boy Who Can Go Inside The TV (dog latin), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 11:56 (twelve years ago) link

I assume one of them is a brass band playing Nirvana and Radiohead covers on a Sunday morning as well.

Yeah, they're called Faust Parp

NickB, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 12:03 (twelve years ago) link

Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band play Charley Pattton/Jimmie Rodgers-era late '20s/early '30s style country blues with tons of energy/humor/hooks/rhythm and lots of songs about food. Voting for them, though I'd go with REO Speedwagon by a mile if they promised to stick to their earliest few albums.

xhuxk, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 12:13 (twelve years ago) link

I kinda like that one Edward Sharpe song.

- Israeli psytrance
- prog
- hippy acid techno/post Steve Hillage ambient

Okay these three descriptions actually make it sound like a festival I'd want to see, espeically the last one.

only band i know on here are REO spedwagon, and i don't wanna vote for them. so skrillex due to their sounding like an alien race w a boss exoskeleton/mandible situation.

And the piano, it sounds like a carnivore (contenderizer), Thursday, 9 June 2011 04:36 (twelve years ago) link

drummer for Galactic also played on the weirdo/departure Corrosion of Conformity record six or seven years ago iirc...

Skrillex is the lowest common denominator when it comes to terrible brostep music.

i mean, look at this guy:

“I’ve been deep into electronic music my entire life. The first records I ever owned were ‘Fat of Land’ by the Prodigy and ‘Come To Daddy’ by Aphex Twin,” raves Sonny Moore, better known as emerging electronic visionary SKRILLEX. “Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails were also early influences. I’ve been dabbling in making electronic tracks on programs like Fruity Loops since I was 14 years old.”
