"A Japanese Dream", or "Fear Of Ghosts", or "The Big Hand". Probably FOG.

Wanted to do Another Journey, which I love, but it has to be Plastic Passion for the great solo.

There are few Cure songs I like better than Exploding Boy, and none of them are on this list.

there are some monstrous songs on this list, as well as some underrated ones ("Ocean" and "Home" in particular never get the props they deserve)

"Happy the Man", with "Play" some way behind

'Splintered' 'Happy The Man' 'Fear Of Ghosts' are legit great as far as I'm concerned. Also 'Plastic Passion' for the way Robert sings 'scandal' if nothing else. Jeez AND 'Do The Hansa' obv.
Um..gah! 'Exploding Boy' okay i'll go with that! Too Hard!

toss-up between Exploding Boy and Happy the Man... chose Exploding Boy, but on a different type of day could have easily chosen Happy the Man. Both are up there with my favorite Cure songs ever.

two years pass...

I remember when "The Big Hand" came out as an instrumental for the credits on The Cure: Picture Show VHS. We were so excited about it. It sounded amazing and we were thrilled that this was going to be the direction they were going in with the next album.

Then Wish came out and it wasn't even on it and we had to wait for the third single to get it as a B-Side ! Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the promise it had in that instrumental. It's not bad at all but something's missing. Can't quite figure out what though. I guess it's why the band didn't include it on the album in the end.

Still, most bands wish they had a song that good to put on their album, let alone discard it as a B-Side.

Oops, wanted to post this on the other thread. Oh well..

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 11 October 2013 21:48 (twelve years ago)

yeah that describes exactly my own experience with that song - the instrumental demo sounded so autumnal and subtle, and then the vocals and the sparkling production managed to kill the magic in that song.

I still think that opening guitar riff is one of the best things to come out of the Wish recording sessions

oh hey this crowd might care about this; I put together a set list for a hypothetical Cure B-side concert:

I then made a Spotify playlist out of what I could find online (thank you Spotify for finally putting up Join the Dots in the US):

cool - might be interesting to do a comp of b-sides which have been played live (quite a few good ones now to choose from!)
