The Morr comp of Slowdive covers is gorgeous.

It's been a couple of days since the last Slowdive thread so I thought this was a good time to mention it.

Lali Puna, Mum, Manual, Isan, Herrmann & Kleine, Ulrich Schnauss, and more. Very nice. Makes a strong case for Slowdive as being the shoegaze band whose songs lend themselves best to covers by Morr artists.

Geez, am I really the only person who was disappointed with the Slowdive-covers part of it?

My copy just showed up in the mail today, and with one listen I don't know how much I have to say about it, but I was kind of disappointed with the fact that the covers sound so much like the originals. It is still very nice, but I was expecting something a little more.

I didn't think the covers cd was up to much. Isan should stay away from singing. The second cd seems more promising, but only from a cursory listen.

And yeah, I hoped the covers themselves would be more of a uh substantial reworking -- the version of "Dagger" is barely altered.

(My review of this now up at Pitchfork, if you care.)

(Although I've just read it and I'd like to note that the MBV joke is Ryan's, not mine.)
