King Midas Sound

Late to the party with this but Waiting For You is great. What's the deal here? School me. I don't know 'hyperdub' from 'dubstep' from 'juke,' most days.

Hyperdub is a label, not really a genre. King Midas Sound is another (very good IMO) Kevin Martin post-post-noise-electronics-whatever project, this time heavily informed by Lover's Rock and perhaps somewhat by dubstep (although this may be more of a coincident of influences) rather than the dancehall/grime-y-ness of the Bug project.

New remix album out of today, I think.

New Roger Robinson mixtape is stellar.

Not feeling the Fennesz collab so far; overall aesthetic feels like too much Fennesz and not enough KMS. Gotta give it a few more spins though.

agree.
the new album is a bit of a slog.
after last years Aroo 12" i was really looking forward to it as well.
it may do more for me once autumn hits, but i suspect not.

It feels very insubstantial compared with Waiting For You, which got the balance between bass weight and delicate vocals and melodies just right. I'll persevere though - I feel like it could be a good album for the long winter evenings

And Aroo is absolutely killer. More of that style would be most welcome

of course, this is only the first collab release in a series ..
things could become more interesting later on.
(agree re the winter groove .. we shall see)

An instrumental version of this album would be incredible

I found this tough going tbh

Aye, fair. But given the subject matter, I guess gruelling has some structural functionality. I imagine there will be a 'versions', eh, version at some stage?

Good cop, Babcock (Chinaski), Saturday, 23 February 2019 12:53 (five years ago) link

I didn't really find it gruelling so much as a bit cringe, all that ~moodiness~ in the delivery of the vocals felt like a caricature
