Felix-Don't You Want My Love (94 maybe?)

"Don't you want my looooooooovin'"

And then that riff, it sounds almost french housey before french house really began, just so filtered and fresh sounding though, there's nothing like it, it's got the feel of something like "So I begin" by Galleon and yet this raging intensity that kind of reminds me of Oakey's cheese anthem "It's Not Over".

Talk about this fucking fantastic record. (Is it true it was Rollo from Faithless?)

My mission here is to get those of you who know this track to start humming that riff and thinking "what a song", TRUST ME THOUGH, it's waaaaaay better even than you remember it to be, that riff hasn't aged, it's only got better.

Yes it was Rollo (on Cheeky recs), 1992 if I recall well. It's in most "all-time house top 100" lists anyway - great stuff. The follow-up "It will make me crazy" is very similar, so worth checking out. Golden Girls "Kinetic" works along the same lines too.

Funny you see the link with Grace "It's Not Over" - I noticed this too. The Oakenfold & Osbourne and Rollo & Sister Bliss remixes of Grace "I Want To Live" ('95) are similar too...Oakenfold and Rollo apparently shared the same studio at the time, so somesounds were probably used by both which could explain this...

Yeah there's just something about the kind of frazzled intense yet funky feel to those central riffs. Actually Fatboy Slim's remix of X-Press 2's Lazy has this feel too, for a more recent example.

Is Golden Girls "Kinetic" actually Orbital??

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 September 2002 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)

You're probably going to hear "Don't You Want Me" more often in the next few months - Pants & Corset have remixed the track, it's doing the rounds on white label and will be released by Nu-Life/BMG in october, probably with a few more added mixes. I'm not sure if this is a good idea, I haven't heard the remix but I know Pants & Corset and they're not the most subtle producers...

What genre?

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 September 2002 20:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, Golden Girls are the Hartnoll brothers. There are loads of good mixes around of that track, especially the Hybrid one is ace.

The other Pants & Corset releases are somewhere between hardhouse and trance. Peak time pumping tracks. Well produced but not really my cuppa - somehow they never really amazed me in any way.

Interesting trivia I found here:
Felix's track is based around a sample of the vocals from the song "Don't You Want My Love" by the group Jomanda. Their version was written by Williams, Richardson, Jenkins, and Ware, and appears on their album entitled "Someone to Love". Felix's version samples a couple lines from that song ("Don't you want my love? Don't you want my lovin'.") and works a whole new dub house dance rhythm track around what was a r&b dance number. The Candy Girls and Patrick Prins have remixed Felix's version."

And another Felix-like track: U.S.U.R.A. - Open Your Mind

yes, was 92, i didn't know it was Rollo though, i don't actually like it that much...try these out Ronan...

Hyper Go-Go - High
Terrorize - Its Just A Feeling
Elevation - Can You Feel It

there are a couple others much closer to this, i'll have to think though. back later...

A great, great record, and according to this week's popbitch it's being covered by one of the Pop Idol contestants. I can't wait for that one.

Mike (mratford), Sunday, 15 September 2002 08:49 (twenty-three years ago)

there was another track around that time that rocked hard, totally forgotten what it's called, nicked the riff off, of all things, Siouxsie & The Banshees' "Happy House"...thoughts?

Charlie (Charlie), Monday, 16 September 2002 06:34 (twenty-three years ago)

i like it too. num. i remember the happy house riff nickage, but don't remember the act. i am of no use.

Alan (Alan), Monday, 16 September 2002 08:40 (twenty-three years ago)

first time i heard it on pete tong was a "wow" moment, indeed. having said that, i don't think it's dated all that well.

four months pass...
This is bloody amazing, I can't stop listening, anyone notice the Les Rhythmes Digitales From Disco To Disco style screeches in the background? It's one of those melancholy/funky records like Phoenix-If I Ever Feel Better (Buffalo Bunch Remix), as I said it feels so french before french house even was really born.
