Careless Talk Costs Lives

So U.K. ILMers, tell me true (ha!), what's up with Careless Talk Costs Lives? What kind of stature does this have? I was interviewing Oneida last night and Kid had an issue on the coffee table, it was the first I had even heard of it. The layout was stunning, the writing not. Oneida said they had been told it was pretty big in England. Is this true?

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 19 September 2002 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Jerry and Stevie to thread...

kate, Thursday, 19 September 2002 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I've seen the latest issue in a lot more places than I saw the first.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 19 September 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw Oneida play recently. It was just sludgy nonsense with no dynamics. Worse than the first time I saw them.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 19 September 2002 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

the writing not

Oh, I don't know...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 September 2002 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

God, I think that's the only decent UK music magazine going right now. It's all moonlighters from Kerrang! (Said metal mag pays well, but you have to write about Coal Chamber)... Careless Talk has cooler bands, plus they treat photography as an equal to layout and writing, so it looks fantastic. I wish them a long run.

Jerry's probably still on his honeymoon.

andy, Thursday, 19 September 2002 16:47 (twenty-three years ago)

We haven't heard from Jerry since his bust up with Doomie isn't it?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 19 September 2002 16:59 (twenty-three years ago)

It's all moonlighters from Kerrang!

Not entirely.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 September 2002 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Are Ned's posts supposed to be some sort of, "Hey, I'm writing for them" kind of thing? Just come out and say it boy-o!

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 19 September 2002 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

The writers are all quite virile, or so I heard...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 19 September 2002 17:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, where do I get this Kerrang gig?

kate, Thursday, 19 September 2002 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

oh for god sakes, enough.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 19 September 2002 17:18 (twenty-three years ago)

i like CTCL (i guess i said this in doomie's wars, part I).
it's the best british mag right now.

joan vich (joan vich), Thursday, 19 September 2002 17:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, Jerry emailed me and we talked - don't take everything on the internet so seriously. Geez. Jerry likes my "invective".

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 19 September 2002 18:15 (twenty-three years ago)

*shrugs shoulders* Sarcasm is the lowest form of humour and I don't really care enough to decode it....

paul brownell, Thursday, 19 September 2002 18:20 (twenty-three years ago)

brg30 (brg30), Thursday, 19 September 2002 19:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Are Ned's posts supposed to be some sort of, "Hey, I'm writing for them" kind of thing? Just come out and say it boy-o!

Have you not read any of the other CTCL threads here??? Anything you wanted to know about it is basically there.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 19 September 2002 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Can I make a request for the wigga tag to make more apperances? It's the one highlight of my life.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 19 September 2002 19:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarcasm is the lowest form of humour and I don't really care enough to decode it....

This is perhaps the most sarcastic thing I have ever read.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 September 2002 19:22 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I hadn't seen the other threads. I was having trouble with the search function this morning. I found them now, thanks. And like I said, I had never heard of this mag until last night.

Yancey (ystrickler), Thursday, 19 September 2002 19:34 (twenty-three years ago)

What's happened with this mag? Haven't seen a new one in Selectadisc for ages.

Ian, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 19:02 (twenty-three years ago)

That' s because Selectadisc have gone all sniffy about stocking magazines. They used to be a great 'zine outlet - selling 40 copies of the Organ a week at one point.

Best mag and music book outlet in London = Helter Skelter, Denmark St (opposite Andy's Guitar Shop/ 12 Bar club

Marinaorgan (Marina Organ), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

aha! i spy an opening gambit in my pursuit of tha selectadisc honey!

"paul brownell"

bob zemko (bob), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 23:25 (twenty-three years ago)

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 23:45 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
Has anyone seen the new one yet? What's in it? It's been a while.

James, Friday, 1 November 2002 13:43 (twenty-three years ago)

new one is out next week, I believe. The Kills are on the cover. I don't actually know what else is in it. Except from some incredibly sexist ranting from Fiona.

kate, Friday, 1 November 2002 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

So is this issue 7 or 8?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 1 November 2002 14:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Sieben.

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 1 November 2002 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Also featuring Mr Swygart wanking himself blind over the Delgados, and Dom being unimpressed by Bootsy Collins.

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Friday, 1 November 2002 15:08 (twenty-three years ago)

And me being me. And I'm always me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 1 November 2002 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

You forgot to flounce off Ned.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 1 November 2002 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Ahem.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 1 November 2002 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

FLOUNCE I SAID!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 1 November 2002 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Eh? Speak up, sonny.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 1 November 2002 23:53 (twenty-three years ago)

FLOUNCE!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 2 November 2002 03:10 (twenty-three years ago)

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 2 November 2002 13:49 (twenty-three years ago)

does the phrase "the most cutting edge yet" actually mean anything?

(cue sandy blair to say yes it must do because every word is to be found in a dictionary)

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 2 November 2002 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

flounce around, flounce around, get outta your seat and flounce around.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 2 November 2002 15:45 (twenty-three years ago)

"the most cutting edge yet" no it's just marketing speak

DJ Martian (djmartian), Saturday, 2 November 2002 15:54 (twenty-three years ago)

"most cutting edge yet" means "even indier than before", obv

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 2 November 2002 15:54 (twenty-three years ago)

CNFY used to be cutting edge, then it just became The Edge. Now its Edge 102.

Pointless.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 2 November 2002 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Did they really need to use the word feature that many times in that many capital letters? Made my head bleed...

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 2 November 2002 17:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I dont know, but now I'm off to flog Organs at Erase Errata (and Fugazi if it ever stops raining), so I could ask 'em for you

Marinaorgan (Marina Organ), Saturday, 2 November 2002 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

"Did they really need to use the word feature that many times in that many capital letters? Made my head bleed... "

there's also supposedly a Fosca feature a Cabaret Voltaire q&a and a Oneida q&a. unless i dreamt them, which certainly isn't impossible.
