I third the hate out of caring. when I complain about something, people are like "why do you listen/try/do/think" etc., and I try to explain that I care about music/work/hobbies/learning, etc.

there's very little music i *hate*... and i truly love music.

and i'm not buying this whole "If you don't show hate, you cannot show the love" because the opposite of love is not hate, it is complete indifference.

that said, i'm completely indifferent to large quantities of music.

The opposite of love is total indifference? Admitidely I slept through my two years of philosophy class, but I don't see that...indifference is the opposite of enthusiasm (which contains both love and hatred), yes, but you'd think that the opposite of something positive (love) would be something negative (hatred) and not something neutral (indifference.)

why do people automatically assume that it makes sense to talk about 'opposite' emotions in every instance? and even when we do routinely do so, is that really reason to think that the two opposites are articulated against one another, to the exclusion of their complex relation to other emotions?

Writing about why you hate something can be fun, but, like complaint rock, I can't see what it's in it for anyone else. I can think of maybe three or four examples which aren't the journalistic equivalent of RAtM.
