I just dont feel the love. Beisdes the album seen them live in small clubs twice and all I keep thinking is this isn't as good as Smile was. Everyone raves about them, Ian still records albums well but that album was horrid.

Christ that alubms dreadful.

It's hard to think of an album I still own that I actually hate. I used to have an Inspiral Carpets album, and that would be pretty close to the top of the list. I'm sure there have to be some good Sex Pistols live albums out there, but I've bought two and they were both awful.

where is the song called 'high voltage' that you would presume to be on this album?! (where is tnt? where is long way to the top?) why is the first track a cover? why is it all so PLODDING?! the woman in 'love song' is called Jean! i know what good ac/dc sounds like and this ain't it.

You guys are lucky -- your worst of all time are for the most part mediocre, innocuous and in some cases stuff that I'm weird enough to like (XTRMNTR! WRD T YR MTHR). My five worst of all time have come in my ongoing stint as a demo reviewer. Imagine bands that haven't quite grasped all the essential intricacies needed to churn out shitty nu-metal, whiny emo or avant-garde nonsense, but play shitty nu-metal, whiny emo and avant-garde nonsense nonetheless. The results are so hamfisted that if they punched me in the mouth I'd be breaking kosher laws. And I can't even any money for selling their shit to used CD stores! Argh.

My five worst, then, even though you've never heard of them and will never hear of them again:

1) Goatease, The Goatease Chain Tape
2) This Revolution, Dufus*
3) Aunt Beaph, 2000 AB
4) Tulip Sweet and her Trail of Tears, Touched
5) The G. Gordon Liddys, Steak On A Kaiser

All of these bands have one thing in common: they try to be funny and/or artsy, and they fail. Fail fail fail fail FAIL.

Yeah, and i know, different strokes and all, but when i think of the WORST stuff that is out there i don't think of neil young and the pixies. i mean when you think of the really really awful gunk you could list. I think the worst album i own is by The Slikkee Boys(sic?).

...oh, and this probably deserves a whole 'nother thread, but there's at least 2 perennial "Worst LP Ever" candidates that I happen to really like (not quite love): Metal Machine Music and Attila - (you know, the Billy Joel thing!)

Has anyone heard the Chromeo album? I think that'd probably top my list at the moment.

If "Nothing's Shocking", "The Top", "Trompe Le Monde" and "OK Computer", to name a few, are among anyone's worst albums then the rest of their collections must be in-fucking-credilble! Sonic Youth's "Dirty" being mentioned on this thread is also a shocker.

And Outside the Dream Syndicate rules! You must have some taste for New York minimalism/drone if you bought this (unless you're just a Faust fan) - what did you not like?

- Yo La Tengo, Summer Sun; the gap in inspiration and vitality between this and Electr-O-Pura is about the same as the gap between It's Hard and The Who Sell Out.

- Sonic Youth, A Thousand Leaves; after the masterful set of SYR EPs, each delving deeper than the last, expectations were high. Then Thurston Moore talked about how SY should have the Dead's audience. Little did I know that he'd start actively courting the Dead's audience by steering clear of anything vaguely smacking of effort.

- Mercury Rev, The Secret Migration; everything seemed to be in its right place, but nothing cohered.

- Sleater-Kinney, All Hands On The Bad One; I had to check the liner notes multiple times to make sure it wasn't a collection of outtakes and b-sides, because most of the songs sounded like half-finished cast-offs. Ironically, their actual b-sides from their previous and subsequent albums were much more fully realized.

True, that's definitely the best thing on there (as it was in their live shows around that time). So call A Thousand Leaves a half-decent single with lazy outtakes before and after it.

* Note: these albums aren't that bad, they were just disappointing, especially after first impressions / hype.

What part of "personal" are you not getting? You must have heard five albms you disliked more than others, surely? Stuff without melody, that sort of thing.

But I still find it pathetic. It is a lot more interesting to discuss stuff you like rather than stuff you dislike. Obviously, a lot of you guys disagree, which I presume is why you dislike Q (Q are more busy writing positive and constructive articles about stuff they find good rather than dismissing a lot of music lots of people like like NME do)

(I find people's dislikes as interesting as their likes. Different strokes, and all that)

1. Big Star - In Space (Apparently, I'm in the minority on this one. It got really good press.)
2. Keith Fullerton Whitman - Lisbon (This was (erroneously) listed on the Rolling 2006 Singles Thread, so of course I had to check it out. It's a very boring 40-minute ambient piece.)
3. Jason Spaceman - Guitar Loops (Not that I expected it to be any good, you understand.)
4. Jim O'Rourke - Happy Days (I just don't like experimental music very much. After being completely blown away by his still-incredible Bad Timing LP, it amazed me just how awful and boring this album was. I'm Happy and I'm Singing and a 1234 was a real piece of shit, too! I am now pretty much convinced that Bad Timing was a lightning-don't-strike-the-same-place-twice kinda thing.)
5. Mogwai - Mr. Beast (this one was a total in-one-ear-out-the-other letdown (where's the HOOKS???), especially since it came after their career-best happy songs for happy people.)
