That opening paragraph can't be beat. :-) Yay Dr. C! I need to get this collection now...

yes!! i've been waiting for the good doctor to write something else for ft since the stockholm monsters piece. between this and the MC piece about joe meek, i have to find this record, now. (which is not going to be easy, since the pacific northwest have the worst record stores of all time.)

top article, joe meek rocks, but i seem to recall on a documentary a few years ago about meek's recording techniques that the thumping bass drum sound on "have i the right" was produced by hitting a microphone against the side of a bath rather than actual drumming...

sounds like drumming to me, what's yr point?

Meek actually miked up the stairs in his flat and had the band stamp on the boards. This was used on the chorus along with the 'real' drums.

Nice piece.
How much of 'I Hear A New World' (if any) is on this new anthology?

Jeff W, Monday, 23 September 2002 08:51 (twenty-three years ago)

None of it.

four months pass...
Very much enjoyed the article, Dr C, and now I've got 'Have I the right' stuck in my head.

The first 3 tracks are amongst the best on an absolutely superb compliation, but I'll be totally honest and say I wasn't as taken by 'That's the way' - it strikes me as being a pretty average 60s ballad and the other 3 tracks are far from average.

Now I need to go and read Marcello's article on COM.
