Derek Dalek (Derek Dalek), Friday, 20 September 2002 19:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Why are you such a bitch
Cause I can!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 20 September 2002 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I try to be helpful, but I always come off as a jerk. I don't know why. I really want as many people to listen to as much music as possible!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 20 September 2002 19:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Kids In The Hall quoting "Heathers", you mean...

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 20 September 2002 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan Perry = world's greatest pop-culture pedant.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 20 September 2002 19:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I have been, and to some extent still am. I'm trying not to be anymore.

Mike Appelstein (mike a), Friday, 20 September 2002 19:25 (twenty-three years ago)

You learn the most about music from pretentious gits.

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Friday, 20 September 2002 19:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe. When I was a younger, my sister was making a tape for a friend of hers that I ended up going out with. She suggested that we make her a tape and gave me a D90 with the Wonderstuff on one side and I refused to put anything on the other side cos I thought that what I was going to put on the other side (Cocteau Twins, Pink Industry, Kitchens of Distinction, AR Kane) deserved better.

She used to steal my tapes of carefully recorded Peel Sessions and copy over them Bon Jovi, if that helps my case.

Alfie (Alfie), Friday, 20 September 2002 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I fear that I probably am (who'm I kidding? of course I am), but that's because I'm not afraid to HONOR THE FIRE!

But, y'see, if I get it all out of my system here on ILM (crossing swords with equally pig-headed music-heads and whistle-headed pop enthusiasts), I reckon I'm an easier sort to deal with elsewhere. Could be wrong, though.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 20 September 2002 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

used to be i cringed when i thought that i might be an elitist. but i realised that one person's "pretention" or "arrogance" is another person's aspiration toward something more personally fulfilling...

mike (ro)bott, Friday, 20 September 2002 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

What happens if you're too hip to be merely a mainstreamist square, but too poorly informed to be a pretentious, pedantic snob?

Lord Custos Alpha (Lord Custos Alpha), Friday, 20 September 2002 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

that makes you me i suppose.

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Friday, 20 September 2002 20:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Let's see now - I regularly read and occasonally post to a web board dedicated to dissecting the minutiae of pop music.

The answer to your question is therefore: yes.

Venga, Friday, 20 September 2002 23:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Could be a double quote, Id rather smell like a B Movie star though.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 21 September 2002 02:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I incorporate the concept's essence. I should bottle and sell it as a fragrance.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 21 September 2002 02:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Only when it comes to road trip music.

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 21 September 2002 02:52 (twenty-three years ago)

i don't think there's anything pretentious about loving something to the point of submerging youself in it til you can barely breathe. but that's probably an insufferably pretentious thing to say innit?

Charlie (Charlie), Saturday, 21 September 2002 05:43 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I don't believe I am. I am far too *tolerant.* But then I did make my cousin cry once duirng a discussion about music.

nathalie (nathalie), Saturday, 21 September 2002 08:15 (twenty-three years ago)

''But then I did make my cousin cry once duirng a discussion about music.''

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 21 September 2002 09:54 (twenty-three years ago)

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 21 September 2002 10:02 (twenty-three years ago)

how on earth are you supposed to know if you're pretentious anyway?

threemetalinsects (threemetalinsects), Sunday, 22 September 2002 07:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Meditate deeply upon your innermost self and seek the truth. Alternately, ask random strangers in the street.

Well dang if that shoe doesn't fit.

j.lu (j.lu), Sunday, 22 September 2002 16:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I've developed a tollerence that if a friend plays me something they think I'll like but really want to break in half I tell them "Its not my style".

brg30 (brg30), Sunday, 22 September 2002 21:45 (twenty-three years ago)

M Matos (M Matos), Sunday, 22 September 2002 21:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Ashley Andel, Monday, 23 September 2002 02:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Pretentious != git, though there's a correlation.

B:Rad (Brad), Monday, 23 September 2002 02:36 (twenty-three years ago)

The whole Eno axis incl. those "art installations."
