geza x's 'gezatone' guitar.

brian badword (badwords), Monday, 23 September 2002 03:01 (twenty-three years ago)

The guitar on a lot of Melt Banana songs sounds more like a ray gun or something than a guitar.

Chriddof (Chriddof), Monday, 23 September 2002 09:52 (twenty-three years ago)

The boiling kettle-guitars that A.R. Kane and especially Kitchens Of Distinction are fond of.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 23 September 2002 10:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew WK - Party Hard.

Those CAN'T be real guitars, can they?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 23 September 2002 10:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Matt that is EXACTLY what made me start this thread!!!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 23 September 2002 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Erm, Def Leppard? Huge banks of synths, surely?

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Monday, 23 September 2002 11:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Whole shitloads of industrial bands compress guitars into something virtually indistinguishable from white noise.

Siegbran Hetteson (eofor), Monday, 23 September 2002 12:11 (twenty-three years ago)

labradford. knock yourself out.

angelo (angelo), Monday, 23 September 2002 12:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Killing Joke circa REVELATIONS and FIREDANCES, wherein Geordie K. Walker's guitar sounds more like a giant bell than a string instrument. I believe noted Krautrocker and REVELATIONS-producer also compared Geordie's sound to a symphony orchestra as filtered through a tinny, trebley transister radio. In any event, no one could accuse Geordie of sounding conventional.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 23 September 2002 12:22 (twenty-three years ago)

whoops, forgot to include the name: CONNY PLANK produced REVELATIONS

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 23 September 2002 12:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Eno's "guitars" on Another Green World.

Jeff W (Jeff W), Monday, 23 September 2002 12:45 (twenty-three years ago)

''Keith Rowe/AMM...''

agree but how abt Loveless. it's all guitar but sometimes it sounds like it isn't.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 23 September 2002 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

no offense, but do you think a day could go by without someone mentioning Loveless on ILM? It's a good album, but nothing's that good.

hstencil, Monday, 23 September 2002 13:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i know hstencil. i feel its a good a very good album (but nowhere near the 'greatest' or any of that crap)...still i was surprised it wasn't mentioned since this is worshiped round here.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 23 September 2002 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I figured I would let you all do my work for me, that's all. Thanks!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 September 2002 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

The servers would shudder to a halt & implode if a 24 hour period went by without a Loveless mention.

lyra (lyra), Monday, 23 September 2002 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

whats with this Fear Of Guitars anyway?

"The Future's So Bright I've Got To Wear Shades"

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 23 September 2002 18:16 (twenty-three years ago)

German guitarist Jorg-Maria Zeger has a couple of amazing tracks on a compilation called Colour and Pattern where the guitar sounds like talking drums.

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 23 September 2002 18:23 (twenty-three years ago)

the guitars on the storm and stress records- more like brittle, oxidized bells than axes.

wes montgomery' style sometimes makes me think of pianos, not guitars.

mike (ro)bott, Monday, 23 September 2002 21:20 (twenty-three years ago)

My first exposure to a multiplexed guitar was actually a song by KARP called "Pie", and later to better effect "Spelling Trouble". The sound is basically a raw feedback tone whose pitch is changed via the guitar volume knob.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 23 September 2002 21:25 (twenty-three years ago)

to me the guitars on the flying luttenbacher's shit sound like dental tools.

all the instruments played on "on the corner" liquify to the point where they sound more or less the same.

mike (ro)bott, Monday, 23 September 2002 21:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Thinking Fellers have done things to guitars I wish other bands have done.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 23 September 2002 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Arab on Radar seem to have taken guitar irritating to a new extreme; Sometimes very distorted to the point of unlistenability playing ridiculously tinny notes that sound more like someone playing a really annoying finger piano.

Suggested tunes: Herpes Simplex 1, Birth Control Blues, Number 3

Ian Johnson, Monday, 23 September 2002 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

and the guitars on "big country", sound like bagpipes.

mike (ro)bott, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 06:04 (twenty-three years ago)

i was gonna say arab on radar too. first class.

"your kids are not safe from us homosexuals, your kids are controlled by the intellectuals. your kids will dabble in their devillish stuff, your kids will dream about their teacher's muffs"

Eddie VanHalen on And The Craddle Will Rock.
Jimi Hendrix on any number of tracks (e.g. Star Spangled Banner).
Tom Scholz came up with a whole bunch of interesting effects (ala Boston).
Roy Acuff on Freight Train Blues.

Oren Ambarchi - Suspension

Geez, what an incredible, beautiful album. Just generates what sounds like pure electronically synthesized tones and clicks out of the guitar, I don't know how, with such depth and resonance. Sometimes little drops of harmonics fall down over it.

sundar subramanian, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

derek bailey

mike (ro)bott, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Derek Bailey's music is the essence of guitar, to me, so it doesn't exactly not sound like guitar.

hstencil, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

derek bailey makes the guitar sound like orchestras.

its magic!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

aaron dilloway in wolf eyes plays guitar that sounds like death as a jet engine apocalypse.

donut bitch is right on with tful282.

christian fennesz leans heavy on the processing but he claims to be a guitarist.

re: AWK/party hard - that's fifty (five zero) guitar tracks going on there.

gygax!, Tuesday, 24 September 2002 16:20 (twenty-three years ago)
