ie a version of currently-popular 'rock music' without all the nasty testosterone, giganticism, reason-to-exist etc

80s indie was way more testosterone fueled than chart music, at least in the states.

80s indie still = two things in the U.S., though, as demonstrated by any old 120 Minutes tape: there was Jack's list, along with loads of punk/funk, industrial, goth, etc., and then there were pop bands (half of whom were British). They got along remarkably well for being so different.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

(Although that was probably because there was such a long crossover between them, especially on the dark-n-gothy front.)

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 17:59 (twenty-three years ago)

jesus lizard were on touch and go and therefore they can only be *coughs* good.

Jesus Lizard = massively underrated by everyone including me - their singles comp is fulla good stuff, the offputting thing is the attitude that seems to drip off them: the "all the cool kids like us" feeling

"Mouth Breather"'s guitar is totally classic, how Dave Q would not quickly leap to its defense is completely beyond me

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 20:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Jesus Lizard were the real deal. Those guys could play their instruments. And Yow was quite the frontman. The perfect mending of entertainment and tortute. What happened to rocK :(
