I quite like it how when Midge is putting a record on in this video to dance to, the record label obviously says 'Chrysalis' on it, which was Ultravox's record label at this time. Putting on his own music to dance to at the end of the world, perhaps?

saw them on the lament tour, that was one of the first concerts I was allowed to go to with a friend without any parents there. bought the album beforehand, i quite liked white china and i *really* liked one small day, but i always thought this song was terrible pish. not sure why i drew the line at this one exactly but i remember that the chorus sounded so bad to me that it just made me want to kick midge ure in the balls. so no, i am not watching the video again. looking at the tracklist for the album, i can't remember what any of side two was like other than vague bits of it, think it was kind of mediocre amirite?

Yeah, Side One is easily the stronger side of the two. I find side two mostly weak aside from 'A Friend I Call Desire', which I like a lot. 'Heart Of The Country' and 'When The Time Comes' in particular being quite mediocre, in my opinion.

Holy shit! For some reason I'd never seen the video before, and I always thought the lyrics to the song were supposed to be symbolic or whatever, I didn't expect everything to be so... literal. Whoa...

Also, now that vinyl has made a comeback, why haven't those hitech side-changing vinyl players of the 80s come back too?

It's like a much less subtle version of Yukihiro Takahashi's Something in the Air, released three years later:

Yeah, he's totally putting Lament on the turntable. See the label picture here:

Their videos were always a bit extravagant, innit. I was a massive Ultravox fan in 10th grade. I requested that MuchMusic play this during an all-weekend RSVP in the late-80's so this song is tied into hearing my name spoken by VJ Michael Williams on national television - a bit of a thrill for teenaged me. This song is a bit overplayed for me, now, though.

The rest of side 1 is great - always fond of "One Small Day." "A Friend I Call Desire" is the clear winner on side 2, but "Man of Two Worlds" is pretty good. So, what was already said, basically.

Oh, and that Takahashi song is pretty good. Why have I never played my copy of Neuromantic all the way through?

Hey, that Yukihiro Takahashi track was pretty good! Gonna check out the rest of that album (it's up on Youtube in full).

It's funny to hear bands TRY to sound like that these days.

Yeah, why not? I recall my uncle having one in the late '80s!
